What are your weaknesses? This is on an application. Answer with one word.

This is for a ATC type job. Trying to help a friend out. Anybody have any good ideas?

You'd be surprised how many people will answer that question with some variation of "I work too hard" or "I care too much" in a face to face interview.

On the topic...I dont think I could put down a SINGLE word that describes a weakness of mine.

Re: If you are applying for a job and are asked this questio

Yea it's really a crap question. I have absolutley no ideas. Everything you say will make you look bad, and says something bad about you.

Re: If you are applying for a job and are asked this questio

Perfectionist.

You can play it off either way.

You can say it's a negative thing because everything must be done right the first time. (Which they would obviously love)

You can say it's a positive because you want everything done right the first time. (Which they would also obviously love)

Good luck.

I would use a word that can work as your strengths and weaknesses:

I.E - "Motivated" should be a strength to an individual but can easily be twisted as a weaknesses for a person when use appropriately. When ask during an interview "Why Motivated your weakness?" You can use an example of something to this affect; I often overlook small details during projects because I was too motivated to finish the work on time.

Above case serve as your weakness because you're too motivated and overlooked details but also letting them know that you're a motivated individual.

You can twist any words to your advantages!

Do they expect you to answer a question like that honestly?

Re: If you are applying for a job and are asked this questio

I was asked this question on my last interview. My answer was "trying to come up with an answer for this question that I knew you were going to ask". It got a pretty good chuckle from the whole panel and I got the job.

Do you expect US to answer a question like THAT honestly? :D

No. It's a trick question. No one in their right mind is going to intentionally give a prospective employer reasons to not hire them--nor do employers really expect you to. Thus, what this question is really getting at is, are you humble yet secure in your own self-assessment, or are you an arrogant prick who thinks their poop doesn't stink?

As others have said, the trick is to turn negatives into positives.

:yeahthat:

They're actually looking for a weakness here. But it's not the kind that you would be aware of. Like aloft said, it's all about how you answer the question. They know a good answer isn't going to be a weakness per se, but you'll still be answering their question when you say something like "I have a tendancy to be all work and no play."

That's a good one. We do ask that question on interviews (my current job is outside of aviation industry). Reasons vary. We want to see if the individual can be critical of him/herself and realize their opportunities for professional development. Whatever your answer, relay your realization of it and note the progress you have made/been making. It's not a make/break question (with me anyway) unless I get an answer that calls their character/integrity into question. I want to see that they've made a self examination to identify those areas in which they can improve. It doesn't have to mean something you're completely horrible at, just something you would like to improve.

My poop stinks.

Cheese...

I just can't say no to it on food.
Makes the question irrelevant, while hopefully letting them know you can interact well, and have some fun on the job.
