If there is a pilot and aircraft mechanic shortage in the near future...

So lately, I have been hearing about the pilot and aircraft mechanic shortage a few months ago, predicted by Boeing. While it is clear that we need more pilots and aircraft mechanics in the near future, will the rest of the aviation jobs and careers in the aviation industry be affected as well? What I am trying to ask is if there is a shortage of pilots and aircraft mechanics in the near future, will there also be a shortage (or maybe not a shortage, but a need) of airport management personnel, aerospace engineers, FBO managers, and other aviation related careers in the near future? Will the aviation industry grow again in terms of more aviation related jobs because of a pilot and aircraft mechanic shortage?

There will not be a shortage of pilots any time soon...just a shortage of pilots willing to work for the wages paid and BS that goes along with it.
 
I don't think the shortage will hit the U.S. for another 3-5 years. It's not due to growth and is only for pilots because of forced retirements, HR 5900, and the new rest rules.

You're right, the shortage is 3-5 years away.

It always has been, that much is for sure!
 
I'm just hoping that the shortage of pilots would also cause a need for more aviation/airport managers, since I'm hoping to find a job in the aviation industry on the management side when I graduate from college.

Maybe for you. I've never heard of a shortage (with any credible support) right around the corner in the last 15 years unless you're talking about the articles funded by ERAU or UND. Hopefully you were able to see through these advertisements disguised as current event articles?

Unfortunately it has been just the opposite. I've seen quite a few GA airports that have been subsidized by government get their funding cut and layoff or shutdown. I don't predict that part of the industry expanding.
 
There has never been a pilot shortage, there will never be one. Too many pilots willing to work for peanuts............

I need to did up that magazine article I have from a Major airline advertising to pay for your commercial license and hire you into a 130+ seat jet with 250 hours. If that's not a shortage then what is?

Please bring that article here to the forum. I bet it is from a Major from a foreign country and that has been happening for decades, not in the U.S. I hope is not an article from any U.S. flight school scaring with the pilot shortage.............

Nope, here in the U.S. from the 60's. It's from Eastern Air Lines and that was the last real shortage we have had and probably ever will have of that caliber.

Most of the pilots from the U.S. were flying in Vietnam then...............

The low pay is OK. I'll only be at my regional a few years and once I get my 1000 TPIC, I'll be off to the majors making the big $$$$. Plus, RJs are cool looking, especially the big ones, with the engines underneath the wing.
