If Mesa furloughs....

I think it's closer to $10K. Regardless, I'm spending the same amount to get my Comm SE, Comm ME, CFI, CFII and MEI that I would have spent on PACE. The difference is I have a better shot at being hired (not for an airline, but instructing gets me closer to my goal than head fry cook at McDonald's), and I don't get locked in with one airline.
 
Plan on minimal hiring at Mesa for the next several months. A recent email from The Top said 18 newhires this month. That's it. That's our "gearing up" for 5 more CR9s this summer.

If Airways tanks, or should I say when, that's 59 RJs and about 15 Beeches that'll need a new home. Good luck finding one.

I've been saying for years that MAPD is a bad choice because you spend tons of cash and have ONE choice for work.
 
My current instructor got hired by Mesa in December and is still waiting to get into his ground school class. In the mean time he still instructs and is getting ahead of the game by studying all of the material he needs to know for Mesa.
 
Tell your instructor to study the following:

Application for employment at Skywest.

Application for employment at Chautauqua.

Application for employment at ExpressJet.

Application for employment at Comair.

Application for food stamps after Airways and Mesa go separate ways and the furloughs start.

What if America West/US Air merge? Would that kick Air Wisky and Republic off the board or would they still have a say? America West accounts for 40% of Mesa's revenue and US Air accounts for 35%. There is certainly a lot at stake for them in the merger.

I would think that if America West/US Air merge, mesa would slide in as the primary feeder. But I guess it all boils down to the board seats and if Air Wisky and Republic can hold them and say "NOPE!".

Considering how much $$$ Air Whisky and Republic have sunk into US Air, I don't think they're going anywhere. Remember, HP and US Air still don't have enough $$$ to make the merger work. I'm betting that if Mesa says "We'll give you the money if you give us their routes," Air Whisky and Republic will either pull the cash or exercise some of those conditional rights they got for donating to charity.


I do agree that if HP and US Airways merge, it's nothing but good for Mesa.

I think part of the start is getting the message out to newbies not to sell their souls for the priviledge to fly a jet.

I can almost guarantee that when GoJet's hiring minimums come out, there's going to be some excited fresh commercially-certified pilot salivating at the prospect.
 
I would have to recommend against working for Mesa. Its been a few months since ive left and I have never looked back. I dont regret the decision for one minute. I no longer have to commute and I am in much better shape now. Who knows what happens in the future but you have to ask your self is it a place where you will be comfortable your whole career. If anyone needs more info PM me and ill give you specifics.
 
Cosmo, I think I remember reading about your leaving over on MesaLounge (back when I read it). Where did you go instead?
 
I don´t believe anything bad will come of Mesa while Ornstein´s at the helm over there -- think he also sits on the HP board of directors among his various other connections -- but he will have no qualms about coming down on the pilot group if things get tough -- more than likely that is the first place he will look....and if you get furloughed there won´t be alot of options (one of which would be taking a flying leap off a financial cliff, unless there´s some change in the trust fund)

If all goes well, you´ll pay an extra 10-15k and age on the waiting list for a bit then drop into the Dash and your first months check will read approx. $950....

Personally I´d rather keep the flying low and slow right now....spares me the politics that is airline biz for a few more weeks
