I'd be #29 at UPS

We carry on the Grand Game, sir! On the shoulders of (lazy) Giants! *yawn*
I almost never picked up opentime or flew JA’s. The number of opentime/JA trips I did over my career could’ve been counted on one hand. I always believed if you couldn’t live well on baseline senior f/o or Captain’s pay at UPS then you really needed to reevaluate your lifestyle. Heck, the last 5 years I didn’t even want to fly my scheduled trips. There were times during the week of turns I’d get displaced 3 out of 4 days and get a little pissed when I had to fly the one day. I say that somewhat tongue in cheek but I was all about working the least amount for the most money.

This seems to be the UPS motto. I was rarely in position to do a JA. I remember living in Spokane and they REALLY needed a Capt in Seattle and asked how fast I could get there. 4 hours. They said GO. But I checked the open time two or three times a day looking for that perfect trip on the west coast. I didn't pick that many up. Maybe one every other pay period. When I did 2 week on reserve in ONT and didn't work much I picked up more cause it was easy to deconflict during two weeks off.

I think I speak for most that you should ban any Alaska Airlines talk. How almost every thread turns into Alaska Thunderdome baffles the mind.

It’s amazing to me in society how quickly people now want the ban hammer thrown at the first sign of anything even remotely considered offensive.

There were times my shop did stuff for no rhyme or reason. This happened to me several times. I had a 2-day trip on days A, B. Staffing looks good on days A, B. All of a sudden a 2-day drops onto the same A, B days at *premium.* So I drop my straight pay 2-day and pickup that 2-day at premium.

Another routine trick I’d do is if a premium popped up on my days off, I would add it, and then drop an equivalent trip later in the month I had at straight pay. Essentially, same days worked overall for the month but higher pay.

Nothing to do with not being able to live on base salary, just making smart moves to make more money for the same amount of days worked overall in a month.

I got woken up at 3 o'clock this morning by CS. So they could save money on parking. Sigh.

I was sort of lying there too tired to move and basically going through the getting started with my day and saw a day trip go into open time. It was a really nice timeframe and on a day I could actually pick it up. It was 3:48AM. I was already on Crew Access so I looked for the trip and it was already gone...

No one could convince me bots still aren't an issue. Also I'd prefer some kind of seniority based pick up. Since it would get rid of the bots and I think improve QOL across the board. FOs who get 100+ credits are an interesting bunch. I asked one how often he logs into Crew Access per day and he nonchalantly said: "Oh about 50-60 times a day. "

That's no way to live. Of course if I bring it up here I get told I don't know the contract lol.

Oh damn, you got a line for September? Hell has frozen over. You’ll still complain though? :)

Our verbiage is either "insufficient reserve availability" or (even more infuriatingly) "insufficient reserve *extension*" (meaning "we won't be able to screw some poor reserve guy into a couple of extra days if we let you do this"). A turd by any other name smells just as sweet, though.
Ugh… This is probably the one thing that will raise my blood pressure around here for more than a few minutes. Idk what the time period is in SDF but in ONT if you have a daytime trip that starts mid-late morning/early afternoon you’re stuck with it. That’s pretty much most of our daytime trips that don’t start with a CML.

I wouldn’t mind the extra money but living out of base instantly makes it extra work. Once I’m home it’s about a 90% chance you can’t drag me back to the airport. I’ve seen stuff in open time that’s a CML to PHX and one leg to ONT. Even that I have to think about. If is more than a day or two it’s definitely a hard no for me with our trip length being on the longer side.

Idk what reserve coverage is like this month but I’ve gotten multiple JA calls everyday this week. A “hells no” for me after coming off a 9 day trip. If they’re short now peak this year is going to be spicy.
