Narrative: The Buffalo Airways amphibious CL-215, Canadian registration C-FTXB, was being used for pilot training at Izmir, Turkey. During a landing at the airport, the landing gear was not selected down and the aircraft’s centre keel made contact with the runway before the landing was aborted and a go around was successfully carried out. The aircraft returned to the airport and landed uneventfully with the landing gear down and locked. A post-occurrence inspection revealed slice-through damage to the center keel beam consistent with ground contact. The damage on the center keel starts approximately 3-4 feet forward of the water drop doors and widens in the aft direction (in a tapered shape) to approximately 10 inches from each side of the keel. There was damage to the ribs and structural members inside the hull

I remember an old thread about a Cessna making a gear up landing on youtube and I made a comment saying "Why didn't they just add full throttle right away and go around?" The reply was that amount of friction and drag would make a go around impossible. I see now that a go around is very possible even after scraping a plane half way down a runway.

The difference is prop strike...

ok, but was a buffalo pilot on board? i am wondering if we are not hearing more due to legal reasons.

I asked this question on the Ice Pilots Facebook page and sent an email to Buffalo. No Response. I think the silence gives the answer...must have been a buffalo pilot on-board.

For $6 a month I opened an account with PureVPN.com. Makes it look like you're in Canada.

OK, episode 12. Not one smudge of info about the gear up in Turkey. What the crap?!
The previews for Ep 13 don't mention anything about it either, interesting.

Sources say it was the hired gun sitting up there, not a Buffalo bubba.

This is a TV show. A reality one at that.

They have begun filming Season 2

Jeremy the rampie has posted on the Canadian version of this site, he no longer works for Buffalo, and is working the ramp for another company in Yellowknife, my guess is Air Tindi.

While the show is a hit in Canada, apparently American producers won't buy it because "it's too Canadian"

That's the same reason I can't seem to find an American girl to go out with me when Im on a layover down south :)
