I'm working on the aeronautical experience grid in IACRA for my CFI initial. Does anybody know if instrument means actual or simulated?

Thx

technically you only need to put down the amount of hours required for the certificate or rating you are applying for...

True, but the record of flight time put in IACRA can be used in case you lose your log book somehow.

As I remember, I don't think IACRA differentiates the two. Actual + Under the Hood = All the Same

14 CFR 61.51(g) defines when instrument time can be logged, and that is what is asked for on the application. There is no difference between IACRA and the paper FAA Form 8710-1 in that regard.

Keep in mind that any simulated IMC attained in a simulator or FTD must be put in the appropriate FTD/Simulator/AATD column, and not the airplane category column.
