I wonder what would have happened...

...if the Republic/CHQ/Shuttle America guys didn't have a union on property?

Anyone care to shed some light on the issue?

.......this is what would have happened. The company would take the contract that all has there signatures on it and use it to make wrapping paper for bday presents for the big CEO. They will attempt to violate it at any chance they get if it helps them out finacially. Their only motivation for honoring it is to keep from finicial burdends and the time it takes to wade through stacks of grievences. Seniority, one of the most sacred things in this biz was attempted to be thrown in the trash now that the company is in a bind staffing wise(partly b/c people are leaving to bigger things). Did you really think that no one would leave when the time came? And of course now they look to the pilot group to make ammends for the lack of staffing forcasting. Do you really thing the company is going to give you the honest answer when millions of their dollars on the line? Just to give you an excerpt of how different words can be from what a company says and what the union says , here goes....From the company....

---The Union has suggested that the option with the least adverse impact upon the pilot group would be training of pilots out of seniority order and pay-protecting the pilots who otherwise would have been awarded the positions. The Company has agreed to this alternative. The estimated number of EMB 170 captain vacancies affected is 150. The initial bases affected are DCA, DEN, IND and CMH. All 170 bases may be impacted by the bypass during future bids.

From the union....

Nothing has been agreed to. There is no LOA. Such an LOA would most likely require a membership vote. The Executive Council, acting on the reaction to this rumor as well as our own judgment would almost certainly reject an LOA even similar to that. The Executive Council will do our best to help the company through this crisis, but not on the backs of our pilots.

and from the company....

Before taking any action, we contacted the IBT to explain the problem and outline our perceived options. In lieu of any other options, we did reach an agreement with the union to bypass/pay protect pilots so as to minimize the number of training events until staffing and training resources could be brought to necessary levels. Acting in good-faith on that agreement, we announced the bypass for the April class. The resulting furor is now well known to us all.

DO YOU WANT TO BE PLAYING THIS GAME WITHOUT A UNION??

Yes unions can be worthless at times and youll hear many people online complaining about it (me included), but its time like these (if you have good council members) that they are worth every penny. Yes in this case one class was able to slip through before the hammer could be thrown down on it, but it could have been far worse.

Yes I understand that this is a job and its my job, among other things, to make money for the company. But as a union member we have an agreement signed by the company as to how we will be treated.

To those who are under the dillusion that the company cares about you and your family. Think again. Just take a peek sometime at what your CEO and top members are brining hope in stock money, salary, and bonuses. DO you think because your company is a family company or uses religion as a "backbone" (alledgedly) to run the company, that they wont do this things? THINK AGAIN!

I love my job, and I enjoy working for the company that I do. However I do not have starry eyes and it makes me very angry when they try to insult us by feeding us BS lines and attempt to keep their pockets lined while they attempt to backpeddle on the agreement they signed and keep us accountable for.
THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED EVENT

I could simply say stay away from RAH. BUt thats not the case. THis is the airline industry folks, some may be worse then others, but this is how it works.

At the risk of sounds bitter or whiny, I must say that I agree 100%.

The first thing CH said about you was that you had it figured out.

He was right.
