I swore at my son today

I had the proud pleasure of Swearing in my Son into the ANG this morning. He is a Senior in HS and after Graduation will go to Basic Military Training then onto his Technical Training as a C-130 Crew Chief. The Air National Guard offered him a really nice deal, he came in as an Airman First Class (E-3) and a 20K bonus as well as offering to pay his Tuition at any State funded college. His goal is to complete college, receive a commission and then go to USAF Flight training to fly the C-130. The Unit has a really impressive mission and I'm proudly jealous of him. He has a world of opportunity ahead of him.

I did exactly what he did, minus the crew chief and the 20K... But I left for BMT 8 days after I graduated HS, attended a state school in Illinois and just got my slot to fly C-130's at my home unit. The Guard is a great thing and a second family to me. Best of luck to him and Congrats!

I know the feeling from the other side. My father reenlisted me and swore me in as a commissioned officer. Know that the sentiment is quite weighty on the other side as well. Congrats!

Thanks Ian
You are right ... I was really honored to be able to have that important part in this part of his life. I know in time he'll more fully realize what it meant to me.

You with the 169th AS?

Congrats on getting picked up!

That is fantastic! I am doing the same except Aircraft Structural at the 148th Fighter Wing. I have an appointment to be sworn in next month; so long as everything goes well.

I am really exited and think that this is going to be great for the direction of my life.

Anyways, maybe I will see your son at BMT.
