I swear I'm not swapping my snow tires yet for at least one more month...

My radar detector always catches cops near the Alerus stadium. They sit at the South East entrance of the parking lot and radar you. I usually get plenty of warning when I turn southbound past Ryan hall. I RARELY drive over the speed limit in town... mainly because it's not worth it to speed when everything is within 10 minutes anyway. Also, the cops here seem to be pretty strict in handing out tickets for only a few MPH over, so I avoid it. I've caught up to people going 65 on that 40MPH section driving naked (ie, without radar detector).

The only time I speed is when I go around the only 2 curves in GF :D

I've never earned a speeding ticket... KNOCK ON WOOD.

Jason, that's no way to win!! Speeding like a maniac is everything! :D :sarcasm:

There's another new road with some nice corners. That new one that goes by happy harry's south connecting 32nd to whatever road is way south of town by that middle school. Except you have to run two stop signs to have any fun. HAHA!!! :D It didn't used to have stop signs, so I had my fun before those went in. :(

The 42nd street S, I've gona 60ish though.

That one has seen a car go 70 MPH :D (isn't that speed limit around the curve 25?!?! haha) but the driver of that car did not want to push the limits even more given the smooth-as-glass concrete underneath the rubber :D If it was asphalt, then by all means.

Ha, people do the same crap on columbia. I always try to time myself crossing the street so that I dont stop traffic. I like when people stop like half a block in advance. I guess I can't blame them considering most people just run out in the street without looking. I love how lots of people think pedestrians have the right away on ALL of university when in fact they only have the right away at those hashed crosswalks with 15mph speed limits.

Even though they have the right away there, I sure as heck look anyway, because regarless of the law, a two ton metal object has the right away in physics. You'd think a bunch of college students would know something so elemetary. Don't they remember their moms telling them to look both ways first when they were like 4 years old? :insane:

Well typically on a farm you have farmer Ole Svensson out der on da County Road drivin' his combine, soooo he'd want to stop for ya so you don't get all mulched up with the wheat der... maybe that's why they figure everyone will stop, you know.

They're on to you guys haulin ass down that road...I drive past there everyday to go to soccer practice. There was a cop sitting way off on one of the unfinished sections of the road. Tough to see him, but your screwed if they bust you with anything over 30, one of our other coaches just got tagged the other day by the friendly neighborhood sheriff.

Are you talking kind of by that tree farm area? One place I see them all the time on 42nd is on that one guys drive way. I'm guessing they have permission to be there. Way more sneaky than sitting in one of the alerus center entrances.

I've been seeing cops hiding in the tree farm area. But well in advance the radar detector goes "blip............blip.......blip....blip-blip-blip-blip-blip-blip-blip-blip" Boy are they sneaky! ...but then again I was going 40MPH (the speed limit) all the long :D

Bulls***, we dont have trees here and you know that!

LOL, did you see that new sign on S 32nd Ave that Grand Forks is a Tree City? I about died laughing.

By the way, for some reason you can use the word • on here but ######## (bull •) will be censored.

Hey, if I'm driving said alero, you bet I'm gona be hauling ass right with you. Granted, I'm gona be in white knuckle swamp ass mode, and you'll probably be eating a hamburger. :D

I think the fastest I've gone through the S onto columbia from demers is 50. The 42nd street S, I've gona 60ish though. I thought I was gona die. lol If you get your technique just a tiny bit off in my car(or most pre 1998 domestics) when taking corners fast, you're gona be all over the curb or worse. :D

God i hope you would be swamp assed doing 60 around that corner. The Alero and nearly every low end car such as the ever so popular cavalier, Grandam and Civic are not performing cars. Anyone who believes so is in some kind of crazy ass 16 year old high school illusion that their car is something more than what it is. The fact of the matter is that if your Car costs less than 30 K's it most likely sucks. If your Car is less than 40 it's slow. Even with your Soup Can, Cold Air Intake, Coffee table on the trunk (Wing), False gauges, super fast tires, and the stickers that give your car 5 extra HP (I swear some people believe this). Damn Fast and the Furious for giving High School Kids unrealistic dreams.

Yeah, what do you drive? :D How about a 1999 BMW M3, which can be had for around $14,000-16,000. I guess that's not a solid performer :sarcasm:.

Price alone has nothing to do with performance. Let's make an example:
Lincoln Town Car
20092496-T.jpg

$45,000 (yeah, isn't that sad?)

VS

1989 BMW 535i with stock LSD and 5-speed manual tranny
535igp5.jpg

$2,000-5,000 (and they are appreciating)

So...as we can see price can't compare a car's "performance".

You can't compare a japanese economy car to a cavalier/grand am/alero either. Even a 1990-1991 CRX Si can keep up with an E36 BMW M3 or 1st generation Miata in slalom, no problem.

But yes... the wings, folgers can, and stickers...*yuk!* My Civic is one of the few that was left unmolested by "Mugen" stickers, sushi bar wings, and what not. Mods are for real cars: BMW's :D

OK pull your head out of it. Heres the short of it. You can put enough bucks into a camaro and it can be over 500 Hp. It is still a poor mans corvette. Same deal as the alero's, civics, grand ams. You can make them "fast" but your still driving a • car. You are comparing apples and oranges like a damn fool. It doesn't matter how much a 17 year old BMW is now. It was once a $60K car. (i don't care about the actual price i don't really care it doesn't matter). I'm just saying that you can't buy a BRAND NEW car for 20 grand and expect something other than a college students car. Purpose move from point A to B, with minimal luxury, good gas mileage and overall perceived lack of performance.

I agree the Lincoln Town Car isn't my choice of cars but it's sister the Crown Vic Interceptor will work most cars over.

Haha, well maybe not swamp assed, but it is hard to do. You really have to know how to pick your line and know what speeds you can take them at. Cars like mine are not forgiving at all, you really need to know what you're doing. The best way to learn how to drive fast is in a sloppy car. One where weight transfer management is everything in successfully taking a corners at faster than normal speeds. That's why I don't knock people that drive cavaliers and aleros and stock civics fast. Granted, there's a time and a place for it. Preferably a closed parking lot. Those are the guys that have far superior skills when they finally move into a better handling car. Weight transfer management isn't as important, as the car it's self will save you if you mess up, but applying what they learned in a crappy car will allow them to drive a better car that much faster. This only works is said person isn't trying to be a hard ass all the time and is actually learning how to drive properly. Which is rare of course. But you get what I mean.

Only on the interstate. If you go anywhere with corners, you get away just very easily. Watch the video floating around of the cop chasing an evo 8 where the officer crashes into a warehouse trying to follow the guy. Except, you just have to out run the radio and possibly a helicopter as well though. :)

As far as cheap cars not being fast. That is purely the driver when it comes to screwing around on the street and autocrossing. Its 70% driver about 15% tires and the other 15, the car. The toyota corolla AE86 is a perfect example. Get a good driver in that car and he'll hang with just about anybody.

Jason, we're you at the autocross event when the old man brought his lincoln towncar? I wish I could have seen it. Apparently he wasn't getting times that were all that bad. I just would have like to watch all the body roll. LOL!!! :D

Why would daddy buy you a brand new $20K POS anyway. That's what I don't understand....and I think that's the whole point that's being made across is that you can easily buy an older better performing vehicle for less than a new $20K car that daddy bought you to just get from point A (Grand Forks) to B (East Grand Forks)
