SMOKING That is.

Its day 2 of my attempt at quitting smoking. I bought some of that Nicorette stuff, but I honestly haven't used any of it yet. I am just suffering through the intense cravings to smoke.

Kids, don't start this crap. I feel like a slave right now, a slave to the stupid cigarettes I picked up at 15 years old and started smoking.

I am doing this for my health, for my kids, for myself, and for my future employment. Thats what I need to focus on.

Thanks for kick in the ass from a few of you guys. You know who you are.

Good work!

The first two days were the hardest for me. Then it slowly, slowly eased off. Keep alert for the "sneaky" cravings though. Just when you're starting to think you're coming out ahead one of those "just one won't hurt" thoughts will sneak in. Don't give in. Just keep remembering what a pain the first couple of days were, and remind yourself that you do NOT want to have to do that AGAIN!

Keep thinking about your kids and keep quitting.

Congratulations! Sure must be a great accomplishment as many people don't completely quit.

I hate cigarette smoke. Whenever I'm around people who smoke I keep on smelling the smoke for like a week.

Ahh I am trying this AGAIN as we speak. I bet your going through that "extreme grumpy" stage right now  . The 1st few days are really hard. If you can keep it up for 2 weeks your good as gold. You WILL feel the difference in your body right away. I am having a tough time due to high stress at work right now so I may consider this new laser thing they have going I hear it works great. I had tried the gum once and it made me sick. I also tried the patch too. I would fall asleep with it on and had the most vivid nightmares I have ever had and would wake up in a sweat. I then read the box and it stated under the Warnings section " This patch may cause disturbing dreams if left on overnight" . Good luck desertdog, Im sure you will kick the habit in no time. WILL POWER!!

Thanks for the encouragement.

Now here is the bad news. I quit for 8 months back in 2003. One particular day I was feeling more stressed than normal. I stopped and bought a pack of smokes. Lit up, and it had me. The re-addiction was almost immeadiate. I kind of feel like I will be battling this the rest of my days.

Nobody like a smoky smelling CFI though, so I have to kick the habit or nobody will want to fly with me.

yay!! maybe all the smack i talk to you has finally sunk in! just dont smoke.

side story. my friend quits smoking every week; he picks up dipping. when his lip gets cut up and hurts, he starts smoking. cycle continues.

:) congrats man i hope you beat it

Congrads on quitting. Do it for yourself. Not saying that to minimize your concern for your children, but by not smoking will dramatically improve your health. They are the beneficiaries of your not smoking. I quit back in 2001. I smoked for 23 years.

Remember: You've made up your mind to stop. Now...STAY STOPPED!!!!

HAHA! I hear if you advertise them like that they'll give you a free lifetime membership!!! :rawk:

Congrats DD! I was a pack rat too! I couldn't quit gradually, or even willfully! What worked for me is a good nite of drunken poker, where you can't feel a damned thing! I smoked 4 packs within about 5 hours! NEVER AGAIN! I still get that same sick feeling I did the morning after! COMPLETELY cure me!

Best of luck to ya!

YOU bet we do! and we can always use a poster child! we already have one for "most learned student"...now we need one for "most "changed" student! :)

Keep up the good work DD... it's hard, but so worth it! if you need something for your hands to do, start carrying a water bottle around... having something in my hands tended to help me - altho now i've got a problem with constantly carrying a water bottle around and drinking too much water! haha :nana2:

Did you mean to say "changed" or "challenged" ?

I'm sure we have plenty of candidates! (myself included!) Probably too many subcategories, though! :buck:

Good to hear. That night we where all in the chat room you would type one line than have to go smoke.... haha. I guess whenever you have the crave, occupy yourself with something else. Best of Luck.

Do it for your flying career as well. Nothng worse in the Military as being stuck next to a friggin chain smoker on a 16 hour flight. After 8 hours you just want to punch any of your crew that smoke. They get so uptight, short fused, and a total bitch to fly with.

Its called Thomas Cook Airlines. I dont know if you are allowed to anymore but I know that at one time you could smoke in the back of the plane. About half way into the flight, the entire back of the plane was a smoke cloud. It sucked, Miami all the way to Austria. I wanted to die.
