I need to get prescription sunglasses...any advise?

I need to get prescription sunglasses for flying, but I don’t know where I can get them cheap. If there is a place or a brand that would be recommended? Also is there anything specific about flying sunglasses that I should know (I heard something like they can’t be polarized…I am not sure)?
 
I used to get a lot of catalogs from these guys, but I never bought anything from them so I can't vouch for 'em. Might be a place to start:

Many eye places have a "get an exam & buy a pair of glasses get a second pair for free or half price" or something like that, and usually you can get the second pair to be prescription sunglasses. If you just want the one pair I'd look at America's Best or some other place that has cheap "as opposed to designer" frames. As far as polarization goes, word is that some aircraft have polarized windshields and if you wear ploarized glasses it will cause blind spots. Unless you are flying some advanced aircraft this should not be a problem. If you are just flying GA aircraft you shouldn't have anything to worry about, and if you are flying something with a polarized windshield I'm sure you would know about it. However, polarized lenses are expensive so if you want cheap, polarized is not the way to go. Other than that I don't think there is anything special you would need to consider. I got mine as my free second pair at Site For Sore Eyes when I had my last exam. They are nothing special but they do the job great.
 
Polarized glasses make some displays look funny (rainbow colors), and make clouds look funny. Since polarization cuts down on glare, it can also be harder to pick out traffic sometimes. My first pair of prescrip. sunglasses was polarized- I'd recommend against it for flying.

Ditto also check out Wally world with there nice return policy you could return your old classes and get new ones for free!

I just upgraded to new frames and lens, I ended up getting the lens that changes with sunlight. Don't believe the hype that they change really fast and people don't notice when your indoors. Because they DO! notice

Im sure people think Im checking out porn (really just on JC's site)

on the computer in the business lab because it takes so long for the lens to change back to clear.


Check out contact lenses I used to not wear them but the new ones are great. But can't wear them in the spring around here because of the dust and wind. Its proven fact that Milford sucks and Cedar blows that explains the local winds known as "BJ Chinook Ana Winds"

Also forgot if you have a favorite pair of sunglasses and want to use the frame you can just have an eye exam an new lenses put into your frame. My brother did that to his Ray Ban's I don't think polarized is avaliable in perscription lenses. I have cheap clip on's that I use when I fish or just put the contact's in and use a good sunglasses
 
What i did instead of buying new prescription sunglasses. I got my aviators, and put them over my regular glasses. It works perfect, and u cant even tell there are regular glasses behind.
