I've been instructing full time for the last two weeks, and the whole thing has been an amazing experience! I've had three students every day, Monday through Saturday, some working on their PPL, others on their IR. Today, my favorite PPL student had the landings "click!" The look on his face when he painted it onto the runway was worth every penny it cost me to get to this point. He nailed the next landing as well! I know I'm still new to this instructing game, but I can honestly say that I'm having the time of my life. This truly is an amazing experience!
 
I remember my 1st students solo just as well as my own. Heart rate is peaked. Its a growing process. You will learn so much by teaching. Keep it up, try to stay cheerful. Everything will work out as long as you stay as positive as you can.
 
It doesn't have to get old! Find new destinations, and scenarios. Spice it up. A good instructor is not only knowledgeable but patient and great with people before getting the cfi rating. Those who have crappy personalities or no patience make terrible teachers let alone cfis. Add with that sjs... god. Enjoy it, and never let that CFI expire!

Thats awesome congrats man! I'm getting ready to get my CFI and start instructing...I know I'm going to be nervous those first few flights but I'm sure it will pay off just like it has for you!
 
Instructing good students = fun
Instructing slacker students who don't study, don't pay attention, and then complain about how it's all your fault that they have 100 hrs in their logbook and no private = also fun for different reasons

Yeah, those first few hours were interesting. Luckily, none of my students had been on an intro flight yet, so I combined an intro flight with lesson one, and it was really straight forward. Those first flights were definitely a lot of fun. After the first 10-15 hours though, I got pretty comfortable with the speed/flow of the lessons, and it just gets easier every day. It will definitely pay off. I had always enjoyed tutoring students long before I became a CFI, and this is just the icing on the cake! You will have a blast!

This is very true! My first instrument student came in with some attitude, but after our first ground lesson (during which he had forgotten a lot of private pilot material), his attitude changed quickly. It will be interesting to see how things go with him here in the future!

Your first 100 hours of dual will be the toughest, then you'll get into a groove and things will start to get easier. Just be careful to not let your groove turn into a rut.

It has gotten to the point where "rich kid syndrome" just entertains me. I think having lots of students who are really into it helps keep me in a good mood as well!

You must have a PhD. in aviation attitudes! How did you know the correct diagnosis? :laff: Although I have to admit, it's amazing how quickly that attitude can dissipate when you show them exactly how much they don't know, that they should be familiar with, especially after their PPL checkride. I mean airworthiness requirements...not that difficult, and maneuvering speed...come on. It was pretty funny. Having good students as well helps a lot!
 
I agree it is definitely more fun than I ever would have thought. Like one poster above said, I remember my first student's initial solo just as well as my own. The local DPEs happened to be around for it and I enjoyed the thought that a few years back these guys were signing my tickets for my PPL and IR but now they were watching me pace back and forth nervously. I was told that I looked like an expectant father. :)

Even more interesting is the call I got yesterday, he is a local attorney and his son is one of my little brother's best friends. When I was much younger he used to take me flying just to see the grin I'd get on my face once the wheels lifted off. Now he needs a flight review and remarked about how it had come full circle.

Oh yes. I dont mind the rich kids as I do the self entitled elitist 50+yr olds who talk so much smack its no wonder the ntsb uses their kind for statistics.
