I just read about skywest insurance

Well, it seems that there has been an 'about face', at least from the SKYE side of the house.

Per an internal email on the 6th, there is a 're-evaluation' of the coverage in the works.

Many interesting things here.

Will SKYW still be forced into a HSA situation?

I personally doubt it. I wouldn't be surprised if our options were just the PPO and CDHP, but there's already been backpedalling.

You guys went with UHC?

Worst...

Ever.

Not reimbursing reimbursables, the union spent a couple of years fighting them on paying for pilot medicals, coverage drops, aye yi yi.

Good luck with UHC folks, they suck royally. First hand experience here.

the company went with UHC, student council just stood and watched. Not that they could do anything anyways

You know, had the union vote won the day, we would be in the same boat we are in today regarding heath care and 401 k and espp...the Crew Policy Manual does not cover heath care; the Employee Policy Manual does. SAPA does not negoiate health benefits. So had ALPA been voted on property, we would have been in the same situation.

...and BTW all of you who like to take potshots like, "well, at least the union could...oh nooooO!!!:eek:"

Grow up!

I bet the anti-union OO pilots here (on JC) are in a huge minority. The rest of use could use a little empathy, it stings every time, and we did our best, and still are doing the best we can with what we've got.

I don't gloat when other airlines lose flying, I feel empathy for my brother and sister pilots who are experiencing career stress.

Don't kick a man when he's down, unless you would like someone to return the favor.

I slightly disagree Dale, as you recall that was about two years ago and I would like to think we just might have our first contract nearly finalized by now. Also our policy manual would have certainly been split from the FAs and other benefits included in OUR contract. The status quo would have most certainly changed. Better or worse can of course be argued, but changed for sure.

I realize you guys are doing your best, but there is only so much you can do. There is no legal 3rd party that can mediate an impasse. We cannot sue the company for grievances, SkyW would NEVER give SAPA money to sue them, nor could we raise enough money to go to court. The company always gets their way, with or without our input. Time to change the status quo.

While I agree that we may have been close to negotiating a contract, if the company would not give on medical , then this would be it. Many people are under the impression that when ALPA was voted in, the CPM would have been frozen until we could negotiate a new contract, and that is accurate, but the Employee Policy Manual, would not have been included in that document, (from everything I understand) so we would have needed to start from scratch to negotiate those things for the pilot group. With the intransient attitude of management it is not likely that we would have made any improvements, particularly with them stinging form a defeat from the "evil union"
The rest of what you say is (unfortunately for all of us) sadly accurate. The meeting in SLC was interesting the other day to say the least, and we are trying to find ways to strengthen our position, but that would take our pilot group pulling their heads out of the (sand?)...time to change the status quo was the theme of the day:)
