I just joined AOPA

AOPA doesn't give a rat's ass about those that want to go out for the $100.00 Hamburger on the weekend. Folks on here need to realize that.
AOPA isn't 100% bad for small GA guys. The tools they provide along with seminars and such are helpful. Lobbying for small airports and such to stay open actually does work. I know a local airport near me that was slotted to close. The FBO had already started a building project for hangars at the airport. AOPA came in and the airport is still in existence 3 years later.

Overall AOPA does seem a bit bloated and lacks some direction. It doesn't help that the biggest donations they get are likely from biz jet people.

I thought all Cessna 150 pilots appreciated the flight review of a Gulfstream 650.

I thought this is only true if you have signed up for the additional 'Turbine Edition' version of AOPA magazine. There is the regular edition for the Cessna/Piper folks and a turbine edition for the jet folks. The turbine edition is exactly the same as the regular edition with the addition of the turbine section.

It's been a few years since I've received an AOPA magazine so I'm not up on the content. Thought it was funny the last time I got one it was more about jets and props than what 99% of AOPA claims to be.

Oh ok. But IMO now it is different. You choose the turbine edition (specifically for jet owners or jet pilots) or the regular edition (the Piper/Cessna/etc crowd).

I don't know, man.

They've got good resources for general aviation and have a good magazine. ALPA is my "work resource" to make sure I can keep going to work to bust rocks and stack cheddar.

AOPA is my "pilot resource" so one day when I get off my ass, I can go get checked out, buzz around the skies and land somewhere for that $100 hamburger.

I figure everyone hates big assed tractor trailer trucks on the freeways but, unless you run a family farm, no less than 100% of your food gets to your grocery store through a tractor-trailer.

ALPA and AOPA will coexist because as a member of both, and they're both member driven, I expect it and you will make it work. NOW GIT! :)

Then you sir have crappy lawyers.

Sorry, but if you're used to something different from lawyers, then I think it's you who has had the crappy ones. I've worked with attorneys in some of the top law firms in the country in the areas of labor law and bankruptcy law, and my experience was the same with all of them. They like to consult with each other, and they like to give very thorough briefings of all of the possible outcomes. I would fear an attorney who gave you a snappy answer off the cuff.

@Derg How long ago was the last GA flight for ya?

Well of course they do, how else are they going to keep charging you criminal rates for a simple question?

Considering that I have no desire to ever own anything termed "experimental," didn't seem to make much sense.

I figure it's important, plus discounts, to join one of the groups. So, I did AOPA. And I got sick of reading the articles on plastic planes costing $500k+ and such. So I joined EAA and they turn around and hire Mac McClellan so I was stuck with reading about plastic planes costing $500k and such. I'm the kiss of death. Matter of time before AAA, NWC and other groups start having articles about which latte tastes best as your BRS chute descends you after some problem.

There's a flight school at my home airport that is offering DC-3 type rating courses. You should come down and do it. Only $12k. :)

I have been wanting to. Also - and much like Japanese fetish porn it's just my particular kink - I would love to do a type in an old steam-gauge DC-9. My grandpa loved that airplane a lot and I've always wanted to fly one. Maybe USA Jet will sell me something along the lines of going through training or something.

Pan Am Academy actually has a DC9 type course. No idea what the pricing is. If you ever do it, let me know and I'll probably join you. I'd love to upgrade my DC9 SIC type to the full version, and the evil Tex-ass overlords screwed that up.
