I hope this trip has two pilots...

But one of the longest missions for a fighter-type aircraft on record, were the F-111s and EF-111s that took off from Lakenheath UK, went south around Spain, through the Gibraltar Strait, down the Med, and return the same way, to strike Libya in 1986. Over 14 hours of flight time, and some of those guys had to be pulled out of the cockpits by the time they landed.

I remember that mission. That was the one where the French refused to allow the planes to overfly France on that mission, thus, the detour around Spain.

That was also where mainstream media broke a story about the AF issuing amphetamines to pilots.

I have done IND to APV in one day in a comanche. Also APV to LIT with one fuel stop. Then there was somewhere around Philly to PHX in a ercoupe that took a week.

Not huge distances but my longest day was 8.0, a 4 hour low level fisheries surveillance flight in the mountains (172) then a fire/smoke detection patrol for the provincial forestry service in the 205, now that was a long day haha.

I think that was operation Chrome Dome. If I am not mistaken SAC had a BUFF base in KOSC (Wurtsmith AFB) & a couple other in Michigan too. Don't know where the rest were.

Mike D you are probably more up on this than I am.

Chrome Dome it was.....the airborne alert mission.

There used to be a TON of B-52 Bases in the US back in the SAC days.

Wurtsmith was indeed in Oscoda.

My best is quite meager compared to everyone elses. My Instrument Long XC was in a 2005 172SP with the 2 axis a/p. GEU - PSP - SBA - CRQ - BLH - GEU. I think it was almost 9 hrs on the hobbs after dealing with LAX approach not giving us our clearance, we just decided to do the VFR corridor over top of LAX. I think it was just around 8 or 9 hours total, but with stops.

Thanks Mike...I have been to Oscoda - Wurtsmith AFB many times and the old ready ramp and buildings are still there, Along with many of the other old buildings. The old ready room building has had its doors welded shed and all the windows have been covered. Man, If walls could talk.
