I hate the easy way.

You on 607 or 243, or whatever Mikey used to be on...such a young pup he is!!;)
Stone if you only knew how much stuff has changed in the past year or two.
243 got cancelled last summer. Then it was brought back as a jet. The jet just got cancelled last week and now 102 moved to CPS and is now 240.

ACK is flying out of IXD which seems to be growing as a base more every month.

Isn't it still 243 from MDW-CPS in the morning? I heard him on the radio this morning. He certainly sounded enthusiastic...must be a new guy.

As long as we're on the subject: What IS it with Airnet and saying the callsign before reading back a clearance? Depress PTT, speak. If you don't hear yourself, you haven't transmitted. Granted, it's totally inconsequential, but I have to get irritated by something or I'll go to sleep. That's my bastard observation for the morning. The first one, anyway. :)

I think some of our radios have a delay between the PTT and TX. I know it's about a half second on some planes. Usually I look at the radios and get a "feel" for how long it takes between the two and try not to talk right away. Most of these are old turn of the century radios! Some have paper cups and a string.

I'm not sure.

On all of my training evals during initial, I was "coached" because I couldn't say the callsign first every time. I thought the AIM said to say it first or last, but I guess that's wrong.

I try to do it "right" now, but still screw up every now and then.

The callsign first is to get in the habit for when the guys fly into and out of the main sort in Columbus.
Helps the controllers there recognize whose reading back sooner. Yes I know controllers can get by everywhere else but it really isn't that hard for the pilots to adjust. Back in the day the sort in columbus had close to 50 something airplanes. Now it's down in the 20s but it still is a mad dash in and out and pretty impressive to someone that has never seen such a thing.

:yeahthat:

And besides, a company SOP is a company SOP. Big whoop, just do it.

I was told that the AIM used to say that you were supposed to say your call sign first but it no longer says that.

That's what I was told. However...

That makes 100x more sense.

I try to do the callsign first, but if I don't I'm not going to let it ruin my day, but now that I know a better reason of why aside from "it used to be in the AIM" I'll do my best to do it more often.

.....being half-mentally-challenged like me, I'm still likely to screw it up, but that's aight.

There is also an approach controller at CMH that does somewhat of the same thing. He will use our flight number before our company callsign. I think it helps a bit, it gets my attention quicker when I hear my flight number first. However, I haven't heard him doing this the past few days.
