I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!!

King Airs are FUN. Getting that turbine PIC rocks.

From what I understand, the majority of 1st year regional pilots are going to make more than $18K, after you add the Per Diem pay...and you get a small raise every year. If this King Air gig is really just part-time, then I suppose $18K is good.

Congrats, GDP!

[/ QUOTE ] Well... Per Deim is basically a wash... I get a check in the neighborhood of $350-$550 each month for per diem... however, that is about what I'm paying out in meals and expenses each month. So it's not really "income" in my book. I suppose you can turn it to income... if you're packing PBJ's... & I have flown with some who do...

Thanks everyone.... He's "checking me out" in the aircraft by training me throughout our first couple of flights. After that, I'll be the only guy in the cockpit, as far as I know, hence, the "PIC." He also plans on sending me to Flight Safety next month, but that's mostly to lower the insurance..... oh, and I dont think there are any regs against it... I have my high alt and high performance endorsements, so as far as I know, I'm qualified to fly it and log it.... but I'll be sure to check into it all before I put anything down on my logbook.... Wooo!

[/ QUOTE ]since he's "checking you out".. have you checked him and his business out? made sure it's legitimate and all - no fine print or what not???

Three things:

1.) Congrats!

2.) I wouldn't log anything until you get a real checkout, if he's not an MEI.

3.) Push as hard as you can to have him send you for type training somewhere. I would be very surprised if you're insurable at all without it. Besides that, it will make you proficient in the aircraft. Him "showing you the ropes" for a few hours might be all well and good as long as nothing goes wrong. Throw in bad weather, mechanical problems, an emergency, etc. and it's an accident waiting to happen. Not trying to rain on your parade, just want you to make sure that he's not selling you a line of BS.

Congrats`
I wish you all the best, have a lot of fun. Oh by the way I am new so I was just wondering how old you are?

I didn't think the King Air 90 needed a type since it's under 12,500. Maybe that's another KA I'm thinking of, though. He did say the guy is sending him to Flight Safety. I agree with the whole "don't log it PIC unless the guy is either an ATP or MEI," though. If he is, you're cool with the PIC since it's dual and you're multi rated.

Thanks for all the comments and tips....

Well, the C90 doesnt require a type since its max gross is around 10k and its turboPROP... I'll be going to Flight Safety to get "qualified" in the C-90

I did checkout his business. He seems to have a nice, big company going for him w/offices everywhere... My brother is a police officer so he MADE me make sure it was all legitamite. He's a retired USAF ATP pilot w/over 12,000 hours, but he said he'd prefer staying in the cabin w/his wife or clients, so he needs someone at the controls at all times.

Oh, and I'm going to turn 20 in July... I got my PPL at 17 and my MEII at 18 (ATP Graduate)

Once again, thanks for all the tips and nice comments!

He doesn't need a type for the C90, but ESF said "type training" meaning training in that specific type of King Air.

I said type training not type rating. I'm aware the C90 doesn't require a type. I've got a couple hundred hours in a B100.

Not even if he's an ATP. An ATP can't just arbitrarily give flight instruction. It has to be under a 135 or 121 training program.

Wait... I have to get training under 135 or 121 to fly part 91?!?

Nope you're fine to fly 91.

An ATP can only give instruction for part 135 or 121 if they don't have the CFI also... (as far as I know)
