I am going to be that guy (luggage question)

Recently invested in a MacBook Pro (amazing laptop btw) and have been traveling with it in a laptop case (and sleeve so TSA doesn't scuff it). My conundrum is I had to swap my healthy stocked cooler for the new laptop bag to comply with "baggage" requirements. In other words I have my roller board, laptop case and flight kit. No more cooler. I would like to still be able to bring food on the road because I am cheap. Are there any flight kits out there with a laptop slot? I have seen that cooler with the laptop connection option but I would rather not buy another cooler just for that. Also, I don't really trust just throwing this expensive piece of equipment into my roller board. If it broke it'd take me half a year to make back the money. :(

Thoughts or tips?
 
I travel with a $300 netbook for that very reason! (not the answer you were looking for) It sits in a sleeve and that goes in the laptop pocket on my LW bag.
 
My MacBook Air and iPad travel in my flight kit (I have a definitely-not-Brasilia-appropriate jet style kitbag that carries both all my flying and all my entertainment-on-the-road stuff). The MBA lives in a neoprene sleeve, inside a slot in the kitbag and I've never had any trouble with it getting hurt, even at the hands of our rampers and the repeated shufflings into/out of the entryway and up and down the airstairs. The hardware is pretty durable, by the way. Yay solid state.

If your bag rides in back/below/wherever, I wouldn't put a laptop in there either.

Regarding being a bag man/"that" guy: Don't worry - especially if you're a commuter or on reserve - we all look like gypsies these days...

what flight kit do you have? i had a cheapo 40 dollar ebay carboard one. I want one that i can throw my air in because my current one i have to put it in the outside pocket while in transit and my rollaboard back pocket when rolling around in the terminal. I'd like a safe secure place for it.

I think that Captain Dad got it from one of SouthernJet's designated suppliers, and was handed down to me when they got ship's sets.

It is gross overkill for the Brasilia, but it serves as two bags in one for me (jepp/headset/FOM/SOP plus my laptop, iPad, chargers, etc.). I think this might be it. With a lot more miles on it, of course. I keep the air in the 'expanding' pocket.

Edit: I want ship's sets when I grow up.
 
The cooler you are talking about is the Aerocoast cooler/laptop bag. Quit being a cheapskate and get it. You won't regret it. The laptop "attachment" unclips and lays flat to go through the X-ray machine. No. More. Taking. Your. Laptop. Out. EVER.

I have the same problem, except I have a 17.3in laptop. It is pretty tough, so I am considering putting it in a flight case. Does anyone have any experience putting a "portable desktop" in a flight case, and if so what case would you recommend?
 
To the OP: why are you willing to buy a new flight case, but unwilling to buy a new cooler?

Fair question, but I do need a new flight case not a new cooler. Although we are switching to EFBs this month.....too many dam things.
