I Am Alaska

Is it not possible for both sides to coexist in SEA? Especially with UAL having pulled out recently?

Very possible. I think that's likely what we'll see. There will be dynamic changes, particularly with the smaller company, but this isn't a war in the sense everyone thinks. Delta is doing what Alaska said they couldn't or weren't interested in doing for them, and if there is collateral damage, so be it. I think they can both exist just fine. UAL has far from pulled out of SEA, they just cancelled the SEA-NRT flight. In fact SEA-SFO has moved to more mainline in the last month or so.

SEA is pretty much maxed out as far as space/gates go. The only real feasible area to add gates is to the N-Gates, which is part of the Alaska Plan.

UA does have a pretty steady operation at SEA, not what they were, but still plenty of CAL tails running around.

Talk is that UA moves to the S-gates...DL takes over all of the A gates when USAirways moves to D to be with AA. Port of Seattle is going to add FIS to the A-Concourse and it does have WB capable gates. If that happens, you might see DL knock down their MX hangar and build A southwards (assuming they can build it north of the current terminal area).

It's all just posturing...I'm not going to start leaving flaming bags of poo on @Derg 's porch just because he flies for an airline that confuses it's pilots and makes them think they're Soviet submarines commanders.

What's up with PDX? Is it just to small to be a viable west coast/Asian gateway/hub?
DL had a really nice trans-Pac operation back in the day...MD-11's flying to Japan and beyond...however, the Port/Customs agents got a bad reputation (aka, DePortland), then the Asian market went sour. Had DL kept a smaller operation there, you might see PDX being the area of concentration (More space for sure)

SEA has a higher O&D market and larger companies that have ties to Asia/Europe.

For me, I wish AS had gone with a stronger code share with DL...our services and routes were very complementary to each other. Most think it's a feud of former lovers...I stand on the side of "Look over here we're fighting (waves hand)...oh no, don't look over there (shaking hands behind the scenes)". (Just an opinion of a lowly gear-putter-upper)

Sure looks like a fight to me. I remember when the fight in Denver was frontier and SW. People were fiercely loyal to frontier, but overtime they lost market share. Perhaps Alaska is different.
