Hysterical Sight...

Delta's new spin on it is: "If its not Boeing, I guess we'll take the bus.":laff:

Ya know, I actually like that we have a mixed fleet now (I really wish McD was still in business) so that we can pit the two airplane makers against each other.

Good use of money, just like painting the DC-9s in the DL colors.:sarcasm:

Yeah, cause there's nothing like operating the DC9-50s for the next five years in NW colors while everything else says "Delta." What does the word "branding' mean anyway.

FWIW, only the 50s are getting repainted.

They will be considered the "retro" paint scheme. And the marketing dept. will be credited with saving the company millions.

I've seen a -30 and I think a -40 in MSP today, I didn't even know a -50 had been painted yet.

It just reminds me of how some DL 727s got painted in the Deltaflot colors right before retirement...and I mean less than 6 months.

Inquiring minds want to know...

If now it is "Northwest, Delta colors"

After it becomes just Delta and all the planes aren't painted, will it become - "Delta, Northest colors"?

They have not painted any -30 or -40's. They are starting with the 50's. They can do 1 a week, and we are about 1/3 through the -50 fleet. According to the DC-9 fleet manager, they are planning on doing the -30 and -40's after the -50's are done.

After the 727, the DC-9-10 is my favorite jet, followed by the DC-9-30.

The 727 was a grand old lady. No mean tricks. Had a ride so smooth it was like the seats were bolted to the hangar floor. An AMAZING wing that would do .84 and still land at Midway like it "ain't no thing". A hark back to the golden age of airline flying.

The DC-9-10 was pure hot rod. No sissy slats or girly man auto-brakes. Kept your head in the game and in cold weather took off like a scalded cat.

That said, the DC-9-30 was a fair compromise. It was no 727, but a touch more sedate than the -10.
