Hybrid Winglets?

There's more to it than just putting the winglets on the wing. It changes the entire wing loading and distribution of lift and that is why the winglets differ with each airplane. One of the main drivers at Aviation Parnters, Joe Clark, passed away a while back. Clark said that some of the stuff out there is 'pretendlets' and are not as functional as they could be.
The spiroid was tested earlier and put on the back burner for a while as they advanced the winglets on various airplanes. Boeing at first was not receptive because they felt their raked wingtips were just as good. Now Aviation Partners winglets are on many of the Boeing as well as the businessjets. Even Airbus is now going back and re-assessing their small winglets to see if larger ones will improve efficiency.

That would have been me. Sorry. Hopefully you came back to ask questions about the spiroids

Jim

I went up to these guys at Oshkosh and asked why the Falcon had "Experimental" on the. All he did was point, didn't even answer the question. It was one of those "keep you modest" moments :insane:

Dick Friel. Director of Marketing and very nice guy

again, my error. Friel was the first one I heard use the term 'pretendlets' when referring to a lot of the treatments on numerous airplanes.

Interesting too that winglets or wing plates came well before the first flight.
