Police at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport have seized 1.3 tonnes of pure cocaine on board an Air France flight from Venezuela, French officials say.

The drugs were found packed inside 30 suitcases on 11 September, but the operation was revealed on Saturday.

France's Interior minister, Manuel Valls, said it was the biggest drug haul ever made in the Paris area.

Six people were arrested, accused of being members of an international drug smuggling ring, Mr Valls said.

Officials say they believe the drugs were meant for sale in France and had a street value of 200m euros (£169m; $270m).

The Air France flight came from Caracas.

The suitcases with the cocaine reportedly were not registered to any of the passengers.

What were they thinking shipping it on the 11th of September?!?

Another example of not properly executing the stealth approach:

Then how the heck did they get on the plane?

corruption, lack of security at airports,....

In Brazil you can easily access the ramp of most intl airports, I use to jump seat on cargo planes and nobody ever asked me for an id, if one of the pilots would say he (me) is with us nobody would ask questions, at times I met the crew on the ramp when I would jump seat from an en-route stop, I would give a quick explanation and I would be off into the ramp.

When I'm ferrying to nefarious regions (at least for little planes), I've sometimes asked CBP to inspect the plane before I leave just to ensure no one is trying to change my status from ferry pilot to cargo pilot.

A former airline maintenance chief told me about an L1011 Eastern sold to Delta after Eastern shut down. Delta basically had to rebuild the thing and let it sit for ~3 years before doing so. Eventually, when they were going through it, they discovered a sphere of cocaine the size of a basket ball secreted away inside an electronic bay. Clearly, there had been some manufacturing process at work to create the thing as it was compressed to the density of a rock. They bought the plane for $1MM. If nothing had been said, I suspect that ball would have just about amortized their cost, huh?

This stuff happens. There was an incident here where a suitcase full of blow was found in a secure area, as far as I know they never figured out who had left it there.

I taught that the whole point was to have an airplane that could go way slower then a Border Patrol Citation, so to run it out of fuel

Haha, lol! Now, instead of low level flying in junked-out pistons and trying to avoid interceptors; the game is to blend in ith everyone else, with nice equipment, flight plans sometimes, and going into main airports.
