I'm pretty sure PenAir and Raven hire fresh dispatchers. Anchorage is darker in the winter, but we're warmer than the midwest. If you like the outdoors and adventure, you'll love it. If you want cities and indoor culture, you'll hate it.

I think I’d love it but not sure I’d want to be SO far from the rest of my family. If I had no one I’d probably do it.

We have a few people in my shop who left their families and moved up here. We’ve hired plenty of people for their dispatch job. You’ll get good experience working flights up here, but to enjoy living up here you have to like the outdoors.

You could definitely get on a carrier up here with minimal experience if any. We have some dispatchers where I'm at that have no experience and they fit just fine. Pretty sure all the 121 carriers have agreements with various carriers too, so you'll be able to jumpseat out too. Summers are great, winters I'm not a fan of but I deal with it. Liking the outdoors definitely helps. You'll have to get used to summers of near 24 hour sunlight (blackout curtains are great), and near total dark winters (ANC averages maybe 4-5 hours in the middle of winter of sunlight).
