HOWDY!

Welcome

4,000 Sailors and Marines get relased from their floating prison where they have been for several months. On board there is 1 female for every 20 males. There is NO beer untill you have spent 30 continious days at sea, then all you get two lousy cans of the cheap stuff. Everybody has about two months pay that they haven't been able to spend.

Good description of a liberty call!!

The worst we had were in Souda Bay Crete. 6400 from Enterprise, 2 other ships were there. It was nuts!!

Maybe we just got cheated but on Enterprise it was 45 days to get beer. We did have the fake kind in the Chief's mess on Saturday nights but that is really just a big tease.

Howdy Back!

...from another (former) Marine. I know I'm old & gray, but I still have my NAV wings. Good to have you aboard. Cool...your wife wants to be a doctor. You'll make an interesting couple!

Best of Luck,

JR

Welcome to the neighborhood! I'm the H-46 Crewchief they're talking about, but I wasn't one of Uncle Sam's Mischievious Children! I was on the Navy side. I did do an ARG cruise on the Saipan. I think we had HMM-162 as the ACE. Great bunch of guys. Can't say the same for the grunts. HMX-1 huh? How was that tour?

HMX-1 was fun. Like everything else in the Corps it had it's good points and bad. It's not at all like the rest of the Air Wing.

On the plus side we got to travel all over, and to some pretty interesting places. We would go out in small detatchments for a couple of days to two weeks. Per Diem money is great when you live in the barracks anyway. They useually put us up in some nice hotels. I met Clinton once, he just shoke my hand and moved on, but he seemed like a real nice guy. All of the pilots were Captians or better with a lot of time in their book (no scary butter bars trying to kill us poor souls in the back).

On the down side we were tasked with maintaining 100% availibility of our aircraft, except for perodic overhauls. If it's broke nobody goes home till it's fixed. Also, have you ever windexed a CH-53. That thing gets really messy. The whole squadron is pretty top heavy as afar as rank goes, a poor PFC is really outnumbered. I got out as a Corpral and was still the lowest ranking guy in my shop.

Grunts are cool, it's their sargents who can be real a$$holes sometimes. Always remeber there are two kinds of people in the military. Infantry, and those that suport the Infantry.

I think the Sydney Police Dept apreciates all the help they can get.

Yeah your right mate, its just weird, because when we go overseas, Navy or RAAF, we never have our own cops on patrol in the city streets. You are right, but i find it weird because we dont do it.
CHeers!

Welcome

Don't be fooled...they're not real cops....just all of the Petty Officers and Marine Non-coms that pissed somebody off while underway.....

I know, I've done it....
