How to cruise with no auto-throttle

Sorry I'm a bit exhausted if this doesn't make sense.
Anyways, I'll normally fly the planned Mach numbers off our release. For the 135s and 145s ER/LRs, that will be around .77-.78. .78 is our Mmo, so we can't really cruise AT .78. In the XR, Mmo (which is max operating mach) is .80, but we are normally planned for .78. I'll only go up to .79 or .80 if we are running late.
In turbulent air, lots of guys will just go blasting through at .78. Me, I'll pull it back to .74. That really does a lot to help with the ride. If it gets REAL bumpy, we are supposed to go to .63. In constant light and occassional moderate turbulence, though, .73/.74 works nicely. I really hate blasting through the bumps at Mmo, it is a terrible ride.

Never ever ever ever ever! I wouldn't either.
Our CR1s and CR2s are planned for .74, best economy. If we're running late, or are going to be really early, we'll bump it up anywhere from .77 to .82. The CR7s and CR9s get planned at .80. We'll run them at .82-.83.
Occasionally, though, in a nice descent, we'll run them all at .84999999999999.
Of course we never exceed .83 in RVSM though.
