How the pilots of today acquired their multi time?

Im considering buying some multi time, but im just wondering how to go about doin it. Most airlines want so much multi time in the last few months dont they? I should I buy 50 hours now with only 750tt or should i wait until around the 1200 mark?.

Personally, neither.

What is your opinion on training programs the emphasize multi time, then? Since most of the training can be done single engine for cheaper it's kind of like buying multi time to extra money to build up multi hours while doing that training. I ask because several of your high profile advertisers concentrate on multi engine time.

I think training in a multi-engine is one thing, but renting a multi and flying around in circles for a few hours a day is something else. It really depends on what you're doing with it.

That is true. Of course flying around in circles is relative. If I could justify the cost I could see using one of those 50 or 100 hour time building programs to become proficient at IFR cross country flying and getting all the random experiences that come with that kind of flying. Simply using it to pad a resume though, I agree is not the best use of your money.

Sorry about not being clear, Brett! I've had a rather "scrappy" weekend in some of the threads!

No problem. On another note, do you think it's wise to short airline stocks to hedge one's investment portfolio right now?

Kidding... kidding!

I took one look at the last pages of that thread and ran the other way not to look back.

The main reason i want to buy is im letting my certificate go to waste, I have my MEI, but not doin any instructing, and for that matter instrument work as well. Me and a friend of mine plan on splitting some time and getting some actual IFR/ multi time. If for nothing else, to stay current.

I kinda like the MEI way. Nothing like failing an engine on your student then having to react like your life depends on it (b/c it does) when your student stomps on the wrong rudder.....

Just wait until you get lazy about checking your critical altitude and hit Vmc and Vs simultaenously!

Hilarity ensues! Watch the earth go roundy-round!

Gonna have to be in Jan for that to happen in TX. I imagine we'd hit Vs long before Vmc in this place. The heat here has been about like the prison planet in the Chronicles of Riddick lately.....

MEI here as well.
Didn't really want to do it at first.
Loved it, was good at it.
Made some excellent friends.
Had some incredible times.
Would do it all again, exactly the same.
Woo-tang, duda-duda, peace.

MEI'in baby!

Personally, my MEI has done squat for me. Our school doesn't have a multi (yet). They have said "Oh, we're getting a (insert multi-engine aircraft here)" for the past year, and as of this post........ nadda.

Oh, we have plenty of folks as base customers who have twin-engine aircraft, but - and I mean this in all due respect to aircraft owners - ME owners LIE!

I cannot tell you how many times I've heard "Hey - I own a (insert multi-engine aircraft here)......I'll have to get you checked out in my plane so that you can fly XXXXX around."

rolleyes.gif

I'm currently sitting at 91 hours multi.......and have been for six months with absolutely NO prospects of multi-engine flying in sight.....and no spare $$$ to "buy" myself that "magical" 9 hours.

R2F<------somewhat bitter and jaded at this point watching all my JC buddies getting "HIRED" and my phone has been absolutely silent even with resume's at just about every regional out there.

Bleh!!!

Someone tell me there's a light at the end of the tunnel and it ain't a train.
grin.gif

Well, I've at least got the light at the end of the tunnel here. Plenty of ME time, it's just going to other instructors right now...... Wish these guys with 1000+ hours would just LEAVE.
smile.gif

Yeah, I'm just whinin' because I'm 20 hours away from 1000 (not that that is "magical" or anything - just a huge benchmark for a low-timer), and all I hear is "rumot"
grin.gif
that "we'll be getting a (twin) soon."
rolleyes.gif

Know how many times I've heard: "Hey - the (insert twin-engine here) will be here at the end of this month" ?????

Let's see...I've been instructing for a little over a year.....

Oh yeah....12 times!!!

Like I said.... just whining.

Kinda like our G1000 172. It'll be here next month.....er, next month. It did finally show up, though.

I feel your pain. I was on pins and needles when Air Orlando was trying to find a replacement twin for the two they lost in Hurricane Charley. They were "getting a replacement" for about 6 months. Meanwhile, they had about 5-9 students that were about two days away from ME checkrides.

Any other prospects of instructing somewhere that already HAS a twin? You've got the total time, maybe it's time to start looking elsewhere so you can move on up.
