what I am trying to ask is say you have all your training done in the US and you want to move to a different country. How possible is it to fly for an international airline. Im sure they have different qualifications and all, but its there a website or some other resource that explains the differences. I hope this isnt too confusing, but I was just wondering. I was thinking Western European countries..any help is greatly appreciated.

I did use the search function but only a little:):)

Sure. Check out the threads on Emirates and Cathay Pacific.

well how about that, i just tried searching again and found a great thread. Sorry, this can be deleted if need be:D

If you are looking at flying in Western Europe you will more than likely need to convert to a JAR licence which unless you have 1500 hours in JAR25 Multi Crew type craft is a complete pain in the proverbial. There is a Company in Luton (Just North of London) that operate a fleet of N Reg Business Jets. But unless you have a EU Passport I doubt you'd get much from them.

As much ex-pat info that can be found on the net for some airlines, it is absolutely bone dry for others..... If anyone knows anything about SAS (Scandinavian Airlines System) I would love to know.... payscales... anything. The only thing I've found so far is on their website is some hours requirement 700 TT/200 ME but they haven't been hiring for two years.

Europe very complicated. Do a search. A full explanation of jaa conversion is found on aviationexams.com Also, JC is great, but for european flying info, nothing beats PPRune.

Not to pick on you but "do a search" is a pretty standard forum cop-out for not helping. JetCareers should be the one stop shop. I'd rather read "I don't know" than do a search - because what do you think I've been doing over the last several years looking for these things?

I just so happened to miraculously find something last night as regards to pay. That's all I was really wondering, since I'm not worried about JAA conversion (yet) and work authorization in Europe is no problem (Swedish citizen).

For the original poster.... this is what I found when searching for payrates and companies.... it may or may not help:

http://www.pilotjobsnetwork.com/operatorlist.php?reg=Europe

It (obviously) has more than just Europe but since the request was specifically Europe I've selected that page.

Cencal, I'm a Swedish citizen as well and have looked seriously into getting my FAA certs converted to JAR. Looks like getting an American ATP, then going to Oxford Academy or Lund University at Ljungbyhed is our best bet.

Let me know if you find something else out. I'm hoping to fly for SAS as well when they start hiring again. Check out West Air Sweden if you Swedish is not that good, they hire with low mins and have no Scandinavian language requirement.

Cheers

Great resource!

For the guys wanting to work at SAS just be aware that they are a struggling company with a very slow upgrade time. My classmate at EK was there for 13 years and was a 767 First Officer. He is looking at going back in a year or so ( 19-20 years seniority ) and would only be able to hold 737 Captain in a fairly junior capacity. There is a reason that over 50 SAS pilots work at EK.

No, it's forum shorthand for "we've all ready discussed this exact topic before, and the previous thread had far more information than I can regurgitate in this one post."

With the drawdown of the Swedish armed forces, and increased costs of general aviation training, Northern Europe will be in need of qualified guys a few years down the road when the world economy improves. As for upgrade time, who cares when you have job security like a Postal Service employee.

Well howabout a helpful link to a previous post. I personally don't care how many times someone asks me where terminal whatever is, much less reading post 1 gadzillion about something. It's something to do on reserve.
