how old were you when you started flying for the airlines?

Re: how old were you when you started flying for the airline

Might as well do it now. If you do get a "good corporate gig" in the future they probably won't look real kindly on that kind of non-professional radio work.
I should probably stop saying "good morning", then.

...and if you were just kidding...disregard the above. :D
Do you think?

Maybe?

Though, with my diet, family history and lack of desire to really put an effort into concentrated exercise I'll probably lose my medical before I get a shot at a "good" corporate gig.

...and by "good" I mean single pilot in a little piston twin like a Baron flying 2 days a week just out and back making six figures.

Not that I've been thinking about it or anything. :D

Re: how old were you when you started flying for the airline

Well this is depressing. I started my training 10 years ago at the age of 16. I'm still trying to get through it.

Don't feel bad. My discovery flight was in Aug 1998 at age 17, got my CFI in Aug 2008 at age 27, still instructing today, but enjoying it!

If you find that gig and can't hold it for whatever reason, hook me up will ya? I'll do it in a New York minute.

Re: how old were you when you started flying for the airline

started flying a Citation (135) when I was 23. Now Im flying pistons again at age 26. Happy to have a job at all right now, so I cant complain... Piston twins are fun, jets are rather boring hahaha

Re: how old were you when you started flying for the airline

im in my late 20's, if i EVER fly an airliner, i must have made some poor life choices.

Re: how old were you when you started flying for the airline

PPL at 17, Navy at 22, Continental at 32 and tired at 52.

Re: how old were you when you started flying for the airline

First "jet job" - 25 (military)

First 121 job - 28

Re: how old were you when you started flying for the airline

26 CFII
27 135 Freight
30 121 Regional
33 121 B727 FO making acceptable coin
35 121 B727 CA making good coin

Re: how old were you when you started flying for the airline

Relax, kids.

first flight - 12
ppl - 21
cfi - 23
135 freight - 28
fancy jet - 33

Don't feel 'behind', not sorry I flew 'widowmakers' for peanuts. Not even sorry the fun times are over and I have to do 'stabilized approaches' now. Time and place for everything. I like what I'm doing now, but next stop is Warlord...

Re: how old were you when you started flying for the airline

Turned 22 during new hire training. Since then I have been stuck in recurrent or transition training on my birthday every year.

Re: how old were you when you started flying for the airline

I'm 23 and have CFI/CFI-I/MEI and all that crap. I think if i really put my mind to it i could land my first regional gig at 24 or 25. However, i have a decent job that pays over 60K a year and probably will be doing ATC soon which makes well over 100K a year.

So the question is.... join the rat race and face all the pathetic crap pilots have to go thru and be broke for a long time with no stability..or keep my well paying jobs and buy a plane and fly for fun?

Boohoo for me.

You already know the answer.

Re: how old were you when you started flying for the airline

My career progression is basically going backwards:

First flight - 14
PPL - 18
CFI/CFII/MEI - 20
121 (ERJ) - 23
135 (C402) - 24

...and now the job I really want (and whose website I check daily for openings) is a Part 91 gig flying a Baron. Win.
