How often do you use your travel card?

I can't remember the last time Bill or I non-reved. When we were living in ORD, he used them weekly to get to work, and that was it.

I do hope to use them in the future when the boys are a little older and able to appreciate travelling. When they can 'get something' out of travelling, I want to take them all over and show them the world. It would be kind of pointless now, cause they're so young they wouldn't remember it. I want them to know where they are, and be able to really enjoy it.

Of course, I'm also hoping that by some miracle by the time the kids are old enough to travel loads will be light enough to actually get somewhere! It's crazy impossible to non-rev right now. Well, I shouldn't say impossible, but it's NOT easy.

Even when I was still flying and we had pass cards on two airlines we still didn't use them much. If you go somewhere, even if the airfare is free or nominal, you still have to eat, sleep, and get around wherever you've gone. That can add up!

I can't imagine what it's like trying to successfully list/get multiple family members on one flight. As a single guy, it's super-easy. I lucked out this month and have had real three-day weekends, enabling me to go on a "mooching" tour to all my college buddies.

My mom is in TPA right now on my passes.

I go a lot durring the school breaks, not so much now that school is in session.

Just a quick survey:

J---did you actually get a physical travel card?? Did you get one for your parents as well?? When I was in ATW they told us travel cards might make a comeback, but for now to just list via the hub, or the 800 #. I know my parents would love the cards!

No card, just the number... card would be nice!

Yeah, I guess they used to do the cards but then got rid of them. Oh well... I don't mind doing it through the Hub, but the card seems like it'd make it a lot easier for my parents when they are traveling.

Hope all is well man!

My family all has cards, but Delta just got rid of them for new people.
are you talking cards or passes? there's a difference... I think delta does still hand out spouse/parent/dependent cards, but friends and family buddy passes are now electronic only.

USAirways used to give cards out (like a credit card) for parents, wives, husbands, whatever the case was. You take them to the kiosks, pop them in, and out comes your ticket. Now--it is all done via a website that the employee has access to. So, in order for my parents to travel, I list them... then E-mail them the info.... they go to the gate, and have to deal with one of our super friendly gate agents. :) Whereas, it used to be, they put the card in the machine.... and it was a done deal. US Airways is still using them, just not giving them out to new employees.

As of Oct, DL stopped passing out passcards and redesigned the kiosk program to include pos space and crew listing for dead heads. Luckily I still have my cards from my 1st tour with Comair. I still have my card from US and it's still active as of Jan 1st, but I'm not stupid enough to try and use it.

Kristie, The buddy passes went all electronic around the spring of 05 (when I was first hired.

And yes, I meant the cards them selves were gone. All of the normal functions are still in travel net.

H46, can you still use the passcards in the kiosks, or is it a useless piece of plastic? I would answer this myself, but BGR doesn't have any kiosks to play with.:(

Yes they still work and will continue to do so until they become damaged or what not. They should work on you keyboards if you have a swipe capable keyboard. I did that when I was at MCO when I was CS. I didn't want to go up to the gates, so I would swipe my card in the hallway. We had a gate floater in the hallway and I'd have them clear me when it was time to clear the norevs.

We get full use--one jumpseat plus one non-rev. Our child is now of age to be a buddy pass person. This made for a very experienced non-rev traveler our child and buddies use them well.

to answer the question: "As often as possible".

Can't make it up the Arc de Triomphe when you're 62 years old and on a wheel chair.
