How was your overall experience? Great with the CFI I had (very honest, refused to milk me for time) however the FBO itself is shady and I wouldn't recommend it.

How was your overall experience? Great. My ppl instructor are great friends to this day (and golly gee whiz, he wasn't a master CFI or even a gold seal CFI)
i didn't make friends with any of my instructors, i had some really good ones, but once they left for the airlines i lost contact. Chris Florin was the best one i had, very knowledgible.

my PPL and my 221 instructor were pretty crappy IMHO, didn't care at all just wanted that airline gig

How was your overall experience?: Excellent. Great instructors who loved to fly. The airplanes were old but well maintained.

Chris Florin was/is good people.
 
Well, not sure about 1967, but in 1976-77 it cost me about $600 in SoCal. I had about 60 hours when I took by checkride, as I had completed most of my training about 6 months before I was 17, so had to keep flying enough to not "lose" it.

C-150 was around $9/hr and a CFI was about $10, as I recall. I had about 30 hours solo of that time, and part was paid by a program in my high school.

Time period: Oh boy. Let's see..My dad was my "real" instructor, but he was not a civvy instructor, so I had to sit with another guy for the 20 hours.. I solo'd in '99.. Hated the school. Didn't fly much for a year.. Found a rockin' old dude to play instructor.. Finally got serious and finished up in Nov 03..

How was your overall experience?: Overall experience was great. I was busy working a full time job, and a part time job, and going to school part time - and I was able to complete my PPL-ASEL in just under 50 hours (49.1TT at the end of the checkride).
