How many people commute?

With probably the exception of the HNL guys here are your choices in the 121 world:

1. Commute or,
2. become U-Haul’s best friend.

Thrust me option 2 is getting old lately.

You ever ridden northern Michigan? I haven't been up that way on my bike. How about Brown County in Indiana? I've heard good things about that place, but southeast Michigan is dead to me when it comes to singletrack.

You know what really kills me about this place, though? It's not the fact that it's flat; it's the sand.

Yep, raced the bike all over N. Michigan back in the day - good trails near Gaylord, Traverse City, and some others I can't recall the names of at the moment.

Most defininetly hit up Brown County if you get the time. The trails were already fun when I left I.U. in 2001 and since then there has been some serious trail building. It is apparently becoming a mtb'ing destination of sorts. I need to go back stat, my bro lives just up the road and he keeps begging me to come back with bike in hand so we can ride. Will let you know if I plan a trip!

You boys stay out of Christies Cabaret, ok? If I get another 0430 phone call to bail another user out of jail after "an unfortunate situation at a popular strip club involving a CRJ FO, a Q400 captain, an unknown man in a bear costume and a lactose-intolerant Shih-tzu", I'm just going to hang up.

Just keep it drama-free, boys!

That's it. Next time I'm out, I'm drunk dialing you instead of Seggy. A lot.

A night out with me involves a crash helmet, two monkeys, a 1986 VW Scirocco, and a bottle of 151 Bacardi. Don't worry it'll be good.:bandit:

Proper.

But the 1986 Scirocco might be a little hard to come by. 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT, I can do. But a Scirocco, that may be a little tight.... Or an Audi Quattro.

From what I hear, it's gotten better, but not by much. And I think it's only gotten better because of AirTran flying MCO-ATL about as often as Delta does.

I don't think it's gotten much better. Our flights pretty much always have a jumpseater and an FA jumpseater. Looks like a miserable commute.

Gotta find your happy place! :)

Puppies, kittens and Wonderbras!

Wow, total epiphany. . . . Guys, say "wonderbra" and then try NOT to smile. I can't do it. :D

On topic. I commuted for a total of nine months. It was a great way to lose about one day off per week.

With my new base coming up in Sept. I'm looking to double that. One great thing about being JFK based was my family still lives in NYC. If I had to commute up the day b4 or get stuck after a trip I could stay with Mom/Dad/or my brother. Any DTW based guys know of good crashpads in the area. I've heard of hotel crashpads but haven't found anything.

You could always "squat" an abandoned home!

Space heater, toaster oven, portable generator or sterno and you're probably living larger than most of your fellow commuters!

It's a good idea, but the abandoned homes are in Detroit proper, and that would require an airport car, which you would find on blocks one morning!

Also, did you know squatting has a technical term? Adverse Possession.

to a DFW-ORD commute. Arguable one of the 9 Circles. At one point I did it on reserve.

Suck-o-rama. Back to living in base.. and the time saved.. and the stress reduced.. is the shizzle.

Commute if you want- but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
One of my old roommates is starting training at the Beagle. He has (allegedly) an ORD base. He's going to try commuting TYR-DFW-ORD.

I wish him luck.

I used to do a two leg commute from BOI to CVG, usually via SLC or DEN. After a year of commuting, I sucked it up and moved to base, my QOL obviously improved tremendously.

I'm going to be commuting to JFK here in a few weeks until end of August. I just got award DTW starting Sept. 1, but I plan to "move" there then.

You'll love it!

I did a two leg commute (IND-LGA) in summer '02. It was a two-leg because we (AA F/As) had no reciprocal j/s agreements at the time. I did have my DL travel card, which allowed me the opportunity to S2 on ACA's 2 Dornier jets that went direct from IND to LGA, but those could not be relied on as they cancelled VERY frequently. So I had to deal with Eagle's full flights between IND-ORD and the hourly Stupid-80 service between ORD-LGA.

I was almost relieved to get the notice for my second furlough, as it meant I wouldn't have to deal with that miserable commute anymore.

He'll need more than luck. Both of those flights are packed. He'll get well-acquainted with the jumpseat of the EMB and the MD-80.

Bet he moves to Dallas, at least.. soon.
