That's a long story, I'll tell you at NJC.

EDIT: That doesn't mean I'm leaving school, just that living in Utah was freakin' amazing and it was a great experience. When the "mountain bike trails" in flatland Michigan suck, and the trash pile skiing gets old, you start to miss living in the mountains ya know? :)

If you live in say, Houston, and work in say, Newark, your commute is going to be horrible. Not only are there are zillion non revs on that route, but there are a zillion deadheads on that route, which will kill your commute faster than you can possibly imagine. I've seen 30+ paying passengers get bumped off IAH-EWR legs.

So if you think to yourself, "Oh I'll just live in the hub city of my airline, but commute to another base inside that system," allow this thread to be a warning that you have another thing coming.

This bears repeating. If you wanna commute from like MEM-MSP, MSP-DTW, MEM-DTW or any combination of those, you're not only gonna be competing with other commuters but also the positive space reserve guys being sent over to cover flights. MEM-ATL, from what I hear, is getting bad, too.

Tried JSing from DEN-ORD and back twice on UAL back when, and it was a nightmare as a low priority guy. Luckily, the 3rd or 4th JS options panned out, but definite lesson learned.

Dude, as crazy as it sounds I sometimes miss Midwest singletrack. Two different types of riding for sure, but would love to come visit. We need to hit up northern Michigan someday!

When I was ATL-based and living in MCO, it was a freaking 24/7 knife fight. You had guys who lived in FL commuting to ATL and guys who lived elsewhere commuting to MCO. If you didn't reserve your jumpseat to work 3 days ahead at midnight, and your jumpseat home 2 days ahead at midnight, you weren't going.

Most guys I knew used "AutoWife" to reserve the jumpseat.

You ever ridden northern Michigan? I haven't been up that way on my bike. How about Brown County in Indiana? I've heard good things about that place, but southeast Michigan is dead to me when it comes to singletrack.

You know what really kills me about this place, though? It's not the fact that it's flat; it's the sand.

From what I hear, it's gotten better, but not by much. And I think it's only gotten better because of AirTran flying MCO-ATL about as often as Delta does.

When I went down to MCO from MEM, I just took FedEx. MUCH less of a headache, and I wasn't biting my fingernails. You hear "Your confirmed on the jumpseat," and unless something wildly out of the ordinary happens, you're golden.

I'm thinking about doing the two leg via Fed-Ex to get home from DTW when we start up there. Last flight from DTW-MCO is like 7pm. I jumpseated on them once and it was great. Next time you are thinking about heading down here PM me.

Will do. The last time I was down, I was there for 13 hours, but never left airport property.
 
You boys stay out of Christies Cabaret, ok? If I get another 0430 phone call to bail another user out of jail after "an unfortunate situation at a popular strip club involving a CRJ FO, a Q400 captain, an unknown man in a bear costume and a lactose-intolerant Shih-tzu", I'm just going to hang up.
