Hey MDPilot -

Not sure if your still in the loop at WPAFB, but I'm from the Dayton area and I'm thinking of looking into that detachment of the guard for the future when I get out of here.

I geuss I'm just looking for some general info about them as I havn't been able to find much on the web. Have a good friend that just recently retired as Maintenence Supervisor out there and he said that once the 141's are gone they're probably going to get a C-5 wing there. Just curious on what you're experience was like. You can PM if you like.

Thanks!

Matt

Cessna C150, C152, C172(M,N,P,S), C182(T), R172K(Hawk XP)
Piper PA28 151/161/181, PA28R-200
Beech BE-76
Robinson R22-Beta
Boeing 767 Simulator

It would be nice to have a long list of planes I have flown, but for the most part an airplane flies like an airplane (push forward the houses get bigger, pull backward the houses get smaller). Now flying the helicopter was a completely different experience, and it was a lot of fun.

Straight tails are a blast! I used to rent from an FBO that had a bunch of "regular" 172s, and one 1959-model straighttail. I got a normal 172 checkout, then I got a checkout in old N6353E...I was hooked! Never rented a normal 172 at that FBO again. Smooooth running engine, great feel, lands on a dime.

Here are the semi-interesting planes I have flown - I didn't list the usual boring ones:

Piper J3 Cub, PA-12 Cuper Cruiser, PA-18 Super Cub, PA-25 Pawnee, Stearman PT-17, Waco RNF, Convair 240, Cessna 140 and 185.

Man! My 7 sure looks sad now . . . can I count all of the MS Flight Sim planes?

Quick but cool story about 'planes you've flown':

My wife and I had dinner with the elderly aunt of one of my mother-in-laws best friends. She happens to live in Fresno and we got hooked into spending an evening with her. Not only was she wonderfully kind, smart, and full of zest despite her 90+ years, but she used to be a pilot! It came up kind of like this:

Her: So what brought you to Fresno?

Me: I decided to become a pilot and I really liked the flight school here.

H: Great! When did you first solo?

M: Last September in a Piper Tomahawk.

H: That's wonderful! I'll always remember my first solo.

M: You're a pilot?

H: Once, but that was years ago. My first solo was in a yellow J-3 Cub back in 1942. It had just stormed and I had some trouble getting the skis on top of the snow for the first take off run, but it all worked out.

M: YOU'RE FIRST SOLO WAS IN A PIPER CUB ON SKIS!? YOU'RE MY HERO!

Needless to say, I was very impressed!
