How long...

PS - I don't play an internet tough guy on TV but if you ever want to come over and do my former spec op PT program with me I can show what I'm capable of enduring :D

If another veteran is having problems with •, then this veteran needs to steer clear of this regional. Could you please PM me the name of the company? My BS tolerance is real high being a former army pilot. At least I think it is.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to put a feeler out there. I think I made a bad choice on which Regional to call home. How long would you stay before you said "I'm getting the heck out of here"

Don't need anyone to make up my mind for me, just curious.

Also, wasn't sure exactly what goes on a PRIA. I mean if I tender a resignation and give two weeks notice(?) it shouldn't be held against me?

Thanks.

Don't do the regional merry-go-round game. Stick with one regional. Today, any regional you go to you will upgrade fairly soon. Not like the 6-9+ year FO stagnation we went through in the 2007/8 hiring cycle.

And seriously, what are ya'll complaining about? Many regionals today are offering sign on bonuses of 10, 15, 20 grand. First year pay of 50 grand or higher when you combine all the incentives. 4 hotel nights for commuters. Etc. etc.

10 years ago when I started it was 20k first year at a regional without any bonus, no commuter hotel nights, and with schedules worse than what you have now with 117 rules. I hit 5th year FO pay at a regional and I never hit 50 grand.

I know the regional industry sucks, but the youngsters starting at regionals today have no idea how good they have it compared to years ago.

Or, they know how crappy it once was (since all anyone does in this industry is complain), and see other shops getting raises or bonuses and better work rules while they lag behind.
A new hire FO at AWAC stands to make almost twice as much as a Mesa FO's salary in bonuses alone, first year.

Go where there is growth and/or opportunities. AWAC is a dead end that is 65 CR2s switching from AA to UA. How many regionals do you know that rely solely on 50 seater jets? Personally, I'd avoid a regional today that has only 50 seater RJs. And that Mesa FO is going to upgrade in ~ 2 years, quicker than the AWAC guy, and most likely go to legacy sooner.

Frontier is the only airline I've heard of doing this.
I think Eagle may have marked me such due to that whole "be in Brasilia class on Monday morning," thing, too, but it is surprisingly hard to get a straight answer out of anyone over there.

*shrug*

It'll be brought up and disclosed if anyone ever looks at me, which...

I would ignore this.

Yea, it was inevitable that people would make "whiner, complainer, wimp" insinuations.

Whatevs.

I'm most likely older than him and been through worse.

Whatevs.

It's really simple, I'm pondering on a personal level whether I am willing to accept what position I have put myself into and also pondering the possible ramifications of possible decisions.

I guess that makes me a whiny, wimpy, whippersnapper...

:)

Reserve time will pass. If you are where I think you may be, remember you will upgrade (or have a chance to) prior to three years. Once you get off reserve anywhere, QOL improves big time.

You're at PSA right? Well your colleagues voted in a concessionary contract a few years before you got there just to get more planes. All at the expense of their fellow ALPA pilots at other carriers who had much better and hard fought for contracts. Thank them for it being a crappy place to work.

You're still beating this drum? Impressive.

Why? Didn't you stick it out at Eagle as a 7 year FO before going to United with 0 TPIC? Sounds like that worked out very well for you.

Wait a minute, you asked for opinions and you got it. What does you being older have anything to do with the airline topic? Your question pertains to flying while at a regional, and you got an opinion from someone who did the regional thing for 4.5 yrs at just one regional and have 10 yrs total in the airlines. It's not much, but where you are is a place many have tread before.

I swear election 2016 has completely changed people. Now it's a "I'll ask my question, or share how I feel, but I'll only hear what I want to hear."

Take a chill pill Doris.

Only your first paragraph had any useful information.

The rest was passive aggressive ad hominem.

Can't find my bonus; perhaps you know where it went? ;)

These bonuses are circa 2015ish - present. The regionals weren't desperate in 2009-2013. The ATP rule did them in, and the "pilot shortage" hit them. I'm not sure when you started at Skywest.

Btw, we got tons of Skywest newhires. And Expressjet. Latest class had 12, and 9 were either Skywest or Expressjet. I think you guys are well liked here.

All the time. Airlines have history and lest we forget where we came from and why things may be the way that they are. New hires can't be blamed but the old guard at a lot of the crappy places had a hand in making them that way.

If I'd stuck around at my first regional I'd be a 10 year FO.

I usually would advocate to sticking to one place, however; that previous shop of yours and a few others are an exception.

It's more the source and less the message I was recommending ignoring.
