How long were you at the regionals and where did you go from there?

1 year 10 months TSA. Cape Air before that. Just started Atlas. I thought I had it bad when I was 'stuck' instructing for 6 years (finished my 4yr in 2008 with that hiring picture and lost my medical for a year and a half). Had those 'bad' things not happened, the opportunities I've had may not have come along, and I probably wouldn't be sitting in class at a place I'd like to spend my career at before 30.

Congrats man. Is there a wait time for SSPs getting class dates?

Depends if you're a CA or an FO. CAs go ahead of all FOs on the SSP list; a CA that interviews 9 months after I did will still get a Delta class before I do. Guys who are CA's now are being told to expect a class date end of this year, I was told nothing until sometime in 2016.

7yr 4month at Pinnacle. Upgrade was running 2 years. Now working for an LCC.

Whats AAY and CQFO??

Passed the Delta SSP yesterday. By the time I get called for class it'll be around 9 years at 9E before moving up.

Congrats. Do we know each other?

Mil time, a couple years flight instructing, some 135 pax ops, finally 4.5 years at OO before burning completely out on aviation.

Got out into law enforcement, made investigator/detective, spot on gang task force. Special teams qualified sniper, firearms instructor. Department ispaying for my masters degree.

Starting OH-58 RW school for my dept soon. Thought about going back to FW aviation/airlines awhile back but too many opportunities exist here, can't take the pay cut and don't really miss all the BS that goes along with the 121 rat race.

I used to instruct with the retired head of the NYS troopers aviation dept. He said he absolutely loved his career there and spent many days trying to convince me to go do it.

This is awesome! If I could get a helicopter flying slot with a department I'd leave all this fixed wing stuff in an instant!

I flew LE choppers before getting into hems. Neither of which will ever pay close to what a major gig will. Regional capt will make more. Granted the rotor job may be more fun, but that doesn't pay the bills too well.

I don't know. Heavy ship IFR Gomers do pretty well for working half the year. Starting in small ships VFR (1500TT) is day only and better than senior FO regional pay with a much better schedule. Granted a buddy almost had a mid-air with a super tanker, but that's rare. If a fledgling Gomer saved from the beginning of a career, say the excess money not earned at a regional, then down the road that pilot would be pretty well off after retiring as an S92 captain.

Yeah the GOM is really the only place one can get close to 121 level pay, but how many heavy IFR birds are out there compared to major airline positions? The S92 gigs are close to 150k-ish I think. Got several friends working down there. They like it, but have pretty frequent layoffs every time the oil prices fluctuate...at least that's what they say haha
