How long for a replacement medical?

Hello,

I was curious what other JC'ers had to wait for the FAA to get back to them with a replacement medical? I misplaced mine and sent a request in the mail nearly two weeks ago and still nothing back. The en route time shouldn't be long as OKC is only 3 hours away. Am I inpatient? How long has it taken you to get a replacement?

I fell in a lake once with my wallet and ruined mine, so I just went back to my examiner and asked her if she would print up a new one. Took 5 minutes. That was about 10 years ago though, so maybe you can't do that anymore?

I think it took me about 3 weeks to get mine. Did you at least get your temporary authority to exercise privileges page?

I got the fax from the FAA but when I took it to my flight school to prove to them that I got it they said that it's only verification and it doesn't allow you to exercise your privileges as PIC. Is that not the case?

I called them and the only way to get it replaced immediately would be for me to get another medical. Granted I have had my medical for nearly two years now and it's only $35 to get a new one I just didn't want to take time off of work to make it work with their hours.

Well, if you got the same letter I did than it should be. I got a letter that stated what license and ratings I had according to their records, what medical I had and when it was issued, then that I had temporary authority to exercise the privileges of my airmen certificates. My wallet was stolen and I didn't have my license or my medical and I ended up taking a checkride with that.

Is this the one you got? I really don't care that my address is listed on it because I don't privatize anything in my life so any quick search could tell people where I live.

No, mine was different probably because I didn't have either my license or medical. However, that should work as it mentions that you must carry it with you or have it readily available when exercising the privileges of your pilot's license.

If there is an issue you could probably go here https://amsrvs.registry.faa.gov/amsrvs/logon.asp and request temporary authority, while I don't think that'd be necessary given the wording of your letter the temporary authority letter is more specific in tone.

"This must be carried at all times while exercising the privileges of your pilot's license."

That means it is your medical certificate until the new one comes in the mail. I accidentally washed mine and it took about 3 weeks to get my permanent replacement. Your school is wrong. They can call the number at the top if they aren't sure.

I have always wondered why we just can't carry a copy of our medical with us instead of the original. Anyone can instantly verify your medical online using the information on the copy. I just wonder why they insist we carry the original of what they consider a very important document.

Probably for the same reason you can't drive with a photocopy of your driver's license.

Maybe I missed something, but I always just carry a copy, looks exactly the same.

Your flight school is, like many flight schools, wrong. That temporary authority is in essence your temporary medical until the new one arrives. It took 4 weeks for mine to come.
