How is the ATSAT scored?

I know the goal is to score a WQ or 85%. My question is how is the test scored? Is it weighted giving priority to certail areas on the test?

An example would be if I only get half right on the analogies, does that mean I am scoring a 50% and need to score a 100% on the math to get up to a 75% on the total test? Or is the test weighted so that a 50% in analogies and 100% in math can give you a higher than 75% score?

The reason I ask is because I have read that the anaologies are difficult, and am curious if this needs to be "made up" in other sections of the test.

I have heard that the sections are given a weighting % based on the importance of the skill they are designed to test. I think that the math is the most heavily weighted section, but I think most of what you will hear about the test is speculation instead of fact.

If you read enough stories on here you will hear people say that they crashed two or three planes in the scenarios section and they guessed on a lot of the questions asked during the letter factory section, but they still got a 100 or 99 on the test. So take that for what it's worth. Seems to me like 100 doesn't mean that you did 100% of everything perfect on the whole 8 hour test, but that you definitely possess the skills necessary to be able to learn the job.
 
I wonder how that is too. I just finished the test today and did pretty bad on the ATC scenario. Only got 50s and 60s in the 4 sections.

Made probably 10 errors in letter factory altogether too.

Now I am wondering if I have what it needs to be a ATC.:dunno:
 
You probably did better than you think. I left there thinking I bombed, and I scored really well. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your score.

that makes sense. there must be a certain expectation or benchmark they have and measure performance to that benchmark. now i know i don't have to freak out if i get 75% correct in one section and try to make it up by being nearly perfect in the next section.

You will have to ask those who score the test. no one knows here.

i got 50-60's on all my scenario tests too and scored a 90 on the test.
 
what did you guys use to prepare for the applied math section outside of the prep books. Any tricks of the trade to learning how to calculate quicker without pen and pencil?
 
the math section of the test was a joke, if you were able to graduate from high school you should have no problem with the math, as long as you weren't terrible with word problems.

After I took the test i had a beer with one of the administrators in the hotel bar and he told me the psych questions at the end were weighted the heaviest. I crashed a bunch of planes in the scenarios portion, and on the analogies, by the end I felt like a complete moron because I had no idea what was going on. I scored a 94.6
 
The graders use the computer test to see if you can sit still for 8 hours looking at a screen while working on some problems. The real grading is they pull your name out of a hat, spin the twister color selector, throw some bones and invoke another mysterious arcane ritual to come up with your results, then match it to a 400 year old symbol chart to get a number.

Kinda like the BCS polls in college football... effin gators.
 
What do you guys think about the math section? Was it harder or easier than the greenbook? How about the SM studyguide?
 
Man from what i remember (this was a year ago) I thought the math was a little difficult, I think. I have no idea how it is scored because I got a 99 on the test but felt I did bad on the math. I got 90s on the scenarious part though so I really dont know.
 
Here is a BIG tip about the math section.

Know the difference between "True airspeed, and Ground Speed"

You'll have a couple questions that reference those... one of them is like... An airplane travels 100 knots per hour, if the airplane travels 125 nautical miles and there is a 25 knot tailwind, what is the true airspeed of the airplane.

The distance and the wind is there to throw you off, the true airspeed is 100 knots.

If it asked for ground speed the answer would be 125 knots

It's also been over a year and a half since I took it so I don't remember the exact questions... but that's a good idea of the trickery.

Maybe he shouldn't have had that beer. The psych questions aren't weighted at all.
 
Reading this made me feel a little better. Just took the test today and walked out feeling like an idiot. Crashed 2 planes and guessed about half of the letter factory questions
