How good or bad is your Regional Staffed?

It seems to be pretty much the same everywhere. SkyWest is pushing 65 per month (not including upgrades). Reserves are as low as 1% in some of the hubs! People can't do anything to their schedules.

I heard about the ASA email, and XJT is hurting for pilots as well, but ASA is handling the hiring so who knows when that will be resolved, and OO has nothing to do with ASA/XJT hiring, it seems.

I would think if this is a trend, they would need to bump pay. Or mainline take their flying back. I imagine there are a lot of people who have cushy jobs that don't want to leave for a massive pay reduction.

The last thing the airlines will do is raise the pay. It's just not going to happen for a number of reasons.

On the other hand, I fully expect planes to start being parked because the regionals have not hired enough pilots. Wait until those new workrules hit.

I believe this is the beginning of the end for the regionals. They think they are short staffed now, wait til next summer. Great time for mainline to be forced to take their flying back

/\ That's me!

Seriously, I fly on the airlines a lot. Usually, we're flying to the bigger cities, so we usually take the mainlines. Every time we get on the regionals, though, I am amazed at how dejected every member of the crew looks. Whenever I get an inkling to go to the regionals, I just think about that and the feeling goes away.

I'm not sure the airlines want the flying back.

It makes sense to control all aspects of your product by doing all of the flying in-house, but I think the ATA absolutely LOVES having split labor groups to cross-bid one another.

"Hey! here's some shiney jets! Want 'em?"

"OMG OMG OMG, here's an RFP!"

"Here's our RFP-5% of what those other guys offered!"

and so on and so on.

On the labor side, can't necessarily scope out more flying because there would be a bloody revolution if, say, Delta took all of their jet flying back. Can you imagine the gnashing of teeth from the regional level and the respawn of the RJDC? :)

Loosening up scope gave the airlines enough rope to hang themselves with and there's no way in hell large airlines are going to go back to having a single employee group with the power to shut the entire operation down.
