Buckeye757 said:A few days ago I was on a flight from ATL to PHL on a 757 when the capt. came over the PA and said we were criusing at 585 mph (he had to dumb it down for us). I've been flying for years now and for some reason when he said 585, that just didn't sound too right. Is this a normal cruising speed for a 757?

Besides, speed is only fun when you're down low.

I have seen airliners in the tropics with even higher numbers, but my personal best was 715 Kts Ground speed.

Even as a civilian pilot, I still find it entertaining watching people brag about how fast their limo or their bus drives down the interstate!MDPilot said:How's 610 KIAS at 35' AGL (2350' MSL) :nana2:
Buckeye757 said:is that even possible?
Buckeye757 said:haha are you a Bush pilot or something up there in Alsaka?...a picture of an old Cub barely making it off of a mountain peak as an avalanche rolls by comes to mind.
