How did you pay for ATP?

I am still strongly considering waiting and paying the whole thing, even at my age. In 7-8 Months, I will have paid off almost $50K in various debt (Car, student loans, wifes Credit Crad oopsies froma former life, etc). It is hard to consider just falling back down the rabbit hole again, even if it is in pursuit of a lifelong dream.

The loan was for 50k...I made a mistake...I got my paperwork work last night and its for NextStudent not MRU....its a much better deal. I am going to do it and I start ATP Nov 20th.:nana2:
I got a check for $51k in my hands. What should use it for? :P

amckinnerney, where are you going? I am heading to Stuart for November 20th.

...school loans. Man, I'll be paying for the rest of my life, but it's worth it. My parents have 5 kids, they don't have money to pay for college and definitely no money for flying! If you want something bad enough, you'll do anything to get it--sacraficing my entire social life (no money to go out) for the next 10 years was my price:)
that is how i paid for my flight training/college education. loans will start becomming due in Feb, so that sucks, but at least i am doing something i love

I got an Ivy League degree for $20k in debt total.

How?

Well I bit off a huge chunk of it by using the money the government gave me for it defending it for 4 1/2 years.

Then I got the absolute maximum allowed credits at the community college that would transfer.

Finally, as mentioned before, I drove a tractor-trailer to Brooklyn most nights of the week to add some extra dough.

There are always other ways than getting in over your head in debt.

Alright I see. . . I'm planning on getting 25k from SLM, with no deferment. Using prime + 5 (which appears to be what they give to everyone) it's giving me somewhere around the $320/mo range for 15 years. Plus with VA benefits coming eventually to the tune of 14.5-15.5k some months after all the paperwork is filed, that'll knock a large portion of the loan out of the way within the first year, leaving me with only the remaining 10-12k'ish to pay. Only getting a 25K loan since we will be using 15-18k out of our personal savings to offset the larger 40-45k loan.

Good luck at ATP.
