How competitive are my scores?

I've always wanted to fly, especially with the Air Force. I graduated from college last May and last month saw a posting of a board coming up at my base. (I've been enlisted 7 years). I took the AFOQT and got all 99's except for nav (95) and quant (94). Took the TBAS yesterday and my PCSM score was calculated to be 91 with 0 flight hours. I've taken a couple lessons yesterday and today and loved the stick time.

What are my chances for a board slot/ getting selected?
Should I send in my hours to up my PCSM score a point or two?

Man we've had a lot of these lately. Luckily, I'm sitting around unemployed waiting for OTS, so I can respond quickly.

If you want to fly at your unit, go talk to the guys that will be on the board. The Squadron Commander would be a good place to start. See what they want.

Your scores are obviously competitive. I really can't figure out this AFOQT algorithm unless you did some serious studying on random PPL crap...I would have thought the 94Q would have dragged your pilot score down a bit. Oh well. Well done.

What was your degree? GPA? Extra curriculars, community service, leadership? Your position in the unit? All of these things can have an effect, though typically the numbers get you an interview and your personality gets you the job in the guard/reserves.

I'd add the flight hours as they accrue. They're no penalty for doing so as far as I know. Keep flying too...a lot of units won't even consider a guy without a PPL.

Wantscheck has the breakdown for AFOQT pilot. I got a 79 on quantitative and 76 on AA, but still had a 99 on pilot.

Yes, go get hours. Flying is fun, and it's relatively cheap right now with fuel where it is. Plus, you're on the low end of the hour spectrum so you'll see greater PCSM utility for the hours you get.

AD boards are rough. I'd say your best bet is rushing a Guard or Reserve unit. Your scores are competitive. Is your personality?

My degree was in Chemistry with 2.99. I'm an E-5 and the NCOIC of our supply/weapons. I'm friends with a FE and I've met the squadron commander and a number of others at the base club. I'm sending in my final packet at the end of the week after I get my last LOR.

You should have NO problem getting an interview. But, like the other guys said, its your personality that's gonna land you the job...logically, that could be a good thing, or a bad. You are on the right track, so keep it up. I would def submit ANY hours you fly, to up your PCSM score, in the meantime. Good Luck.

Go get the hours! It will elevate your chances.

Keep in mind you will probably going up against people who have certificates such as PPL or Commercial and others ratings. So I would personally suggest you get something to show you have initiative and that you are not just a good test taker.

So I am hoping to be a pilot in the Air Force as well. I have no military experience, but I am a commericial pilot with about 450 hours. Does my comm. license and my flight time help me a great deal? Does it hurt that bad that I don't have military experience?
GPA: 3.3 in Psychology
AFOQT : all 99 except 87 verbal and 96 nav.

Do I have good chances?

I'd say you have a very good chance. The commercial cert. does look good. No military experience is not going to hurt you.

Good scores. You will be competitive, but my experience in the interview I gave before being picked up was a tendency to opt for candidates with more flight time and commercial cert. I only had a PPL, so I think it depends greatly on the unit commander and how well you sell yourself as a person.

What's your PCSM? Your other scores are similar to mine and I got picked up no problem. I had no previous military experience.

I just took the AFOQT on March 2. I still need to take the TBAS. I won't be putting my app in until the September board.

Im applying for this March board for OTS.. heres alittle on myself

3.0 GPA in Aeronautical Sciences: Pro Pilot
81 AFOQT Pilot section
98 PCSM
~800 Hours TT
Employed as a CFI at the same college which I was a student.

My AFOQT scores werent the greatest but I hope they see that Im already wearing the Tshirt of a successful pilot.

I just got done with the TBAS. My PCSM is a 95. With the rest of my numbers are my chances pretty good? I hope so. I wish the next several months would hurry up and pass.

I read somewhere that more pilot slots were always given out during the first board of the year? Is there any truth to this?

Great scores. You should have a good chance to get picked up.

Butter...with all due respect, don't act stupid questions. You basically maxed out all your scores. You don't need to ask, "Are my scores good enough?" I got an 87 verbal too...freaking analogies.

My AD recruiter told me that typically the first board in THE FISCAL YEAR will have a lot more slots. That means the board in the fall.

Have you considered Guard/Reserve as well?

Any update?

Well my application was submitted to the board on March 13th.. I dont expect to hear anything for at least another month. In the mean time I applied to an air force reserve air refueling squad to fly their KC-10s.. I have an interview next friday so well see how that goes in the mean time.

I applied at March boards too, can't stand waiting, it feels like time has come to a halt.
