How backed up is the faa certification processing currently?

My CFI was supposed to expire on 10/31/2010. I did the american flyers renewal and turned all the stuff in about a month before my expiration. Here it is 10 months later and I still haven't received my new certificate. When I go to the airman database on the FAA's website, I can't even find my name. I think the database on the FAA's site is broken or something. I did find this: http://airportguide.com/search_airmen.html but there it lists my CFI certificate as expiring 10/31/2010. I am getting worried. I don't instruct anymore, but still... Is the FAA just that backed up these days?

Yes, something went wrong. I could take a couple guesses, but that is all they would be.

Call (866) 878-2498 Monday morning and talk with Airman Certification Branch. You'll probably also need to talk with American Flyers. Their number is (800) 282-9595.

http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/airmen_certification/

It says

Definitely something wrong, lost, missing, etc... if your new CFI certificate isn't shown when you search your own name.

When I search for my name on the FAA site, my name doesn't even come up. I think the FAA's site is broken or something, can anyone else get results from it when they search for their name?

If my paperwork was lost, wouldn't my entry in the database not show any CFI certificate at all? The database I searched on airportguide.com had my expiration still listed as 10/31/2010, which leads me to believe the airportguide.com database is just simply out of date. I should also say that the address the FAA has for me is my parent's house, so it's also possible that my parents got it and they just never told me. Theres too many grey areas with this for me to know exactly whats going on...

Looks like the airman database is temporarily broke. A search for my last name (a fairly common one) yielded no results. Same for "smith". Check again in a few days.

Yes, it does. Most likely weekend maintenance. Although I'm reminded of the old Apple Computer commercial where the old lady keeps walking back and forth as the two business owners are trying to get Microsoft to work. After a day with nothing accomplished she asks "what are you doing" and they reply "optimizing the business". As she turns she says "if you optimize it like that much more we'll be out of business".

The FAA is probably "optimizing" their computer system.

Did you not get a temp certificate when you turned your stuff in? I'm guessing not. I don't know how all that works if you used AF's filing service. When the database comes up try to log in and get one of the Temporary certificates of privileges or what ever they are called and see if that shows the new cert.
