Hour long hold for a briefer

We've got to call a briefer to file an ADIZ plan. These are not something you can do with DUATS.

Huh? Why is this PDF on the DUATS site then? Unless the feds have dis-allowed this procedure since I last did it in May 2006, you CAN file into, out of, or through the ADIZ over DUATS.

Well, if LM won't release the tapes, there is no reason to call. The reason I have been calling is to make sure the P-49 TFR isn't active.

My favorite is when you call 800-WX-BRIEF, wait for a while then somebody from a different FSS than your local answers (I usually get Great Falls or LA) and as you give them the flight plan info they get huffy about "You need to call your local FSS to file that plan, why did you call me?"

The System is beautiful.

Funny thing is, I file with Dayton all the time no matter what part of the country I'm in. I asked the guy one night if they minded and he said it doesn't matter.

Plus there is no way I'm putting every FSS into my cell phone, and 9 times out of 10 I don't have access to a local landline.

Duats is a great resource but I'm surprised no one has mentioned Fltplan.com

I use this service exclusevely for domestic flight plans and weather. I also use it for basic Mexico stuff, like La Paz and Cabo etc.

Any ADIZ, or just the DC one? This article mentions only the DC ADIZ.

What other ADIZes are we talking about here? The only other one that exists to my knowledge are the ones on the coast.

I don't know much about duats, but I used DUAT many many times to get into, out of and within the DC ADIZ.

I used to always have a hard time filing a plan out of FTY.. We'd go to get our clearance and they'd be like "BlahBlahBlahAlphaTango - we don't have anything on you..." and I'd be like "Okeley Dokeley." Then I'd make the student call up a FSS and make them file.... again..

Then.. I got tired of dealing with humans and started dealing with 1's and 0's.. My problems went away..
