Hot: Air France Jet Missing (AF 447)

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

Brazilian Air Force Controllers... if they've got a search area shouldn't they have found it by now?

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

According to the CEO of Air France, there were a number of issues including the electrical problem, indicated in the 0414 message from the aircraft.

I haven't seen it yet, but where along the flight path (should) they have been at that point in time....?

Yikes. Not the best news with which to start that day. Here's to hoping for the best.

It's not that easy, especially if they are not in radar contact. By the time the SAR arrives you need to start from you anchor and begin to move out. If the weather is bad that will slow you down too. Brazil doesn't have any viable long range patrol aircraft as of yet (they will in about 2 years).

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

according to french news , the plane was flying through stormy weather , hard turbulence and was hit by lightning , they had electrical problems , 14 minutes after that they disapeared from radar screens
no word on weather they landed or crashed , they are 11 hours late , not a good sign at all
a friend of mine is a FA and he is often on the A330 i hope he is doing fine :(

one has to think that if they had landed somewhere, somebody, somehow, would have made contact.

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

If the worst happens, this would be the biggest since the AA A300, and the second AF widebody hull loss in recent years. I'm hoping for the best (maybe a real life version of "Lost"?)

How do they know it was hit by lightning?

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

I believe the xxx means the bases are indetermined.... or perhaps they don't show since the chart "starts at FL260. In any case... embedded T-Storms that are 22,000 feet tall at least.... phew.... don't know if I would have liked flying through there...

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

Looking at the top right, isn't that the chart for tonight?

Anyways there is "always" storms and turbulence at the equator. Solar heating, rising air, continuous low pressure etc.

Doh....Just ignored the obvious. Guess I should have looked at that first....
