Hot: Air France Jet Missing (AF 447)

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

If there's been no word of any kind by now... it's not a good sign at all.

Stupid international ops question (I never flew INTL): Do the rafts in the airplanes have transmitters/locator beacons of any kind?

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

Damn!:( Heck Brazillian ATC/radar could loose track of an airplane just departing an airfield!

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

My wife and son will being taking the Northwest/Delta A 330 in two weeks to Romania. Its a great plane. I hope this one landed somewhere!!!!!!!

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

Trying to get more details from English-language news here on cable and it's all about "John and Kate + 8 + Divorce Attorney + Gag + Gag + Gag"

Ir's early here in Germany, and CNN is all about this.

I'm trying to be optimistic.

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

The BBC has some good coverage right now on their newsfeed. Hope all is well. :(

Didn't the 330 have some problems with defective fuel feed or something? (Air Transat flight about 10 years ago, longest unpowered glide in a commercial airliner?) I really have no idea what I'm talking about, though.

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

Cnn.....

an air france plane missing over the atlantic with 228 people aboard reported electrical problems before it lost contact, the airline said today.

bbc....

air france said the plane sent an automatic message at 0214 gmt reporting a short circuit after turbulence, and may have been struck by lightning.

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

Or to try to go to bed to :(

There's a dark part of my brain that's paranoid about something happening over the dark ocean out of radar contact.
Makes me wonder if I need to push a little more for onboard WX radar for these SA and trans atlantic deliveries....

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

Someone on a.net is citing a French news source as saying the pilot reported 'hard turbulance' and the conversation ended.

Uh oh ... I was about to chime in that the only recurring problem I knew of with A330s was that, occasionally, a wrong part-number FCPC got installed. Wacky elevators could seem like turbulence.

CASA AD/A330/84

On A330 aircraft, the Flight Control Primary Computer 2 (FCPC2) and FCPC3 are supplied with power from the 2PP bus bar. Electrical transients on the 2PP bus bar may occur during number 2 engine failures. Such electrical transients lead to a FCPC2 reset. FCPC3 reset does not occur due to the introduction of a second electrical power supply to FCPC3 from 1PP bus bar associated to Electrical Contactor Management Unit (ECMU) standard 5.

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

Why do you say that? I find this just about unbelieveable as well. It's still rather early but wow. . .

"western" European... that'd be like me stating that it's unthinkable that Americans north of the Mason-Dixon line would be inbreeding, as if to imply it is "normal" in the South.

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

it must have happened real fast, I figure they'd have time to make emergency calls? Does anyone know how does that automatic electrical emergency signal works (or whatever they said it was in the news)

sad news nevertheles :(

Re: Hot: Air France Jet Missing

in regards to the automatic notification of problems, does it send any type of coordinates?
