That is what I was told. Now trying to build some savings. From others who went through recently, there is a 50 dollar non refundable deposit for uniforms. Then they start deducting pay for the uniforms. Plan on 750-800 a paycheck in training dependeding on your tax situation...

Or $680

You have to pay for uniforms? Good they weren't charging for uniforms back in the day when they were issued by Coach!

Horizon guys,

So I have a lot of time off this summer due to route cuts at my company. This leaves me with three days a week available to study for ground. I have made flashcards of the memory items, also printed out my flows. The printing place said that it would cost 80 dollars to get the posters printed out for the cockpit layout, now call me a cheap a$$ but that is a good amount of change. So I was wondering what the rules are concerning pilot candidates using the training center prior to ground school? I know they have the SPT's there, however I also know that security there will not allow me to go without a badge or escort. Is there anyway to work around that? Maybe someone I could talk to in order to get access as I live 20 mins away from the airport and am home most of the week??

There were guys in my class who did not do much studying. They all made it through, but made it difficult for themselves. They spent hours and hours after at the training center doing what they had plenty of time don't home. I do not recommend that for obvious reasons.

From talking with check airmen over the last few weeks, it sounds like the new hires that didn't make it through ground school recently struggled with figuring out the FMS, so if you know your flows and limitations when you show up, you won't have to divert attention from trying to decipher the FMS.

If you've flown an airplane with an FMS before, the basic menus and such should't be too difficult, but since we utilize the FMS a ton in the Q400 and do RNP .1, we end up with a lot of procedures that are required to work around various quirks or limitations in the software, especially with the VNAV mode.

That said, we have made some moves towards reducing the FMS workload over the last couple of years, but it's not at all uncommon for an experienced FO and a senior captain (or check airman) to end up swearing at the FMS when the VNAV either does something stupid or refuses to execute a command for no apparent reason.

Open vacation slots for the rest of the year has been removed by the company, for all bases and all seats, for the rest of the year. The company did not bother telling anybody.

Well that doesn't sound good... Is it because of the hiring issues and not wanting flights to cancel due to lack of crews available?

That sucks. Good luck to the union with their grievance but unfortunately it sounds like the contract allows them to cancel vacation if it would result in flight cancellations, and I don't see how the union could prove otherwise when the company makes the schedules.

The fact that they're simultaneously offering time off without pay would seem like a good place to start...

Can anyone confirm if the upgrade time here is still 2 years? The last mention of it on this thread is May, and I don't know if that was even accurate then. I am thinking of applying here, but only know the cons of this place (low pay, days with 6 legs) Is reserve time short at least? How have things been here?
