Horizon

I wouldn't say "ignored" so much as nobody is minding the store anymore. APC was started by a UPS guy and a United guy. It grew and they sold it to a big company called "Internet Brands". IB runs other big commercial forums such as "Flyer Talk". The two co-founders of APC still play some small part in the place but have little to no motivation in keeping it up to date.

Just in case anyone is still on the fence about applying because of basing, the class just finishing up all got their first choices: including none in ANC, 2 in PDX and 1 or 2 in SEA. Still starting classes every 3 weeks and bumping class sizes up to 14.

Official word today is that classes will be 16, every two weeks. I'm not sure when we'll actually attain these numbers, but that's the theoretical goal.

Hiring is going to continue indefinitely. The rate of attrition is 3 per week, and increasing. I don't expect hiring to stop any time soon.

Horizon also made the sim portion of the interview a bit easier than it had been. When I interviewed, it involved a DP, a (brief) enroute portion, DME arc, VOR approach and ILS, but they're cutting it down to basically some maneuvers and an ILS, since Horizon doesn't fly "dive and drive" approaches due to the FMS creating a glidepath for non-ILS approaches.

Anyone with any questions about the interview can PM me and I'll be glad to help. No sim evaluation if you do well on all the other stuff and have previous 121 experience within the last two years.

Wait.... WHAT?! No sim? They've always had a sim!

You're going to have to fill me in on this one....

No sim for me. And it wasn't because I was sent home either :)
I finished all three interviews then went back to the lobby. A few minutes later they gave me a conditional offer pending a background check and sim evaluation. I accepted then went back for fingerprinting, pee test and company ID picture. I went back to the lobby and was later called back to the meeting room and was told that I did very well with all three interviews, plus my prior 121 time that I didn't have to do the sim eval. They gave me a stack of memory items, procedures and flows to have memorized before class and sent me home.

Three of us interviewed: a CFI from Phoenix, a KC-135 guy from Spokane and myself. The CFI was sent home after the last interview. The 135 guy was sent to the sim and later sent me a text that he passed.

For those of you who have interviews coming up, the whole process was very laid back. Everyone was very friendly in fact, almost everyone who walked through the lobby stopped to shake our hands.

All you current horizon guys, would you recommend someone going there with no roots in the pnw (just the desire to live there)?

(Of course let's set aside the fact that a new hire means one more number below you as to not influence your answers)

Why not? I didn't have any roots here. I wanted to move back after being stationed in the PNW previously. Only took me 7 years to get back. I know you should never say never, but I'm not leaving again.....unless it's for a whole lotta cash!

Hahaha

I think the attractive thing about horizon is the few bases. If you ever get displaced (anc aside) it's never that far.

Among a crap ton of other things mainly the whole tprop and everything. I'm a sucker for props
