Horizon

Shhh!!!! Don't tell the higher ups that, we don't want those clapped out Qs.

On second thought, we could send them to Anchorage.

All kidding aside though, they aren't properly equipped or configured for our operation as they sit now.

AAG and the union met on May 5th to discuss returning jets to Horizon property. We have 15 Q400's coming up on their leases in the next few years, almost a third of our fleet, with no indication of being replaced. AAG CEO Brad Tilden made it clear that the only way that jets, or even replacement planes will ever happen is if we agreed to concessions. We have no flow through to Alaska. We have one of the longest upgrade times in the regional industry and 3 of our bases have the real possibility of closing. If you want to be based in the Pacific Northwest, I suggest you take your hard earned certificates to Compass. They are opening a Seattle base and their upgrade time is under one year. After today, I might just do that myself.

Um, yea...

Are there anymore rumblings of Q's into Southeast Alaska?
That's the whole reason we got RNP .1 for the 400, so I'd 'assume' so...but after yesterday's letter, nothing is for certain here. Apparently AAG wants to wage war on 2 fronts (Delta and against Horizon, it seems)...but I'm going to stop short of comparing them to Germany...

Who are the Russians in that senerio?

"Brad Tilden is not even willing to entertain that possibility. Rather the discussion was centered on 76-seat jets, and the contract concessions the company wants to possibly replace the 15 Q400’s coming off lease with these jets.

we were told how Alaska had “taken their medicine” after 9/11 in the form of the Kasher arbitration. No mention was made of the stagnant wages we endured, the loss of our jet flying, furloughs, downgrades, etc. Yet the implied message was we needed to talk about contract concessions (time to take our medicine) if we want to have any hope, however small, of flying jets again at Horizon."
