Horizon Air

Yup, it's not like you've hidden it from anybody and you make these posts pretty much once a week.

Some one has to be positive on this site and keep the conversation going.

I do this in between patients, helps me keep my sanity.

Fair enough, but I'm not sure why you're asking about upgrades at Colgan when you don't quite have enough hours to get hired there (according to published mins) and you don't meet the hiring requirements for Horizon even if they were hiring.

2 year reserve 8 year upgrade...a career regional. Gotta know someone to get one from what I've heard. Did read that they picked up quite a few mesaba guys.

I think Horizon is accepting apps from UND grads with as low as 750/100. Long reserve and really long upgrade times but jr base is SEA

Yup, better pay to fly a turboprop as opposed to a jet and as I understand it better work rules too.

Pay at the top of the scale isn't too bad, either. If you were to get in there when you were young, say 23 and fresh out of college. By the time you were 33 you'd probably be making over $100,000 a year, by 42 over $120,000 a year.

While that isn't what top end pay should be, it'd be hard to make the transition to a major at 33 when you'd have to dump your schedule and QOL of life to make less money (for a while). Dunno how long it'd take to get the pay and QOL back up to that same level, and I don't see Alaska going anywhere anytime soon.

I ask questions about things before I get there because i am able to make more informed decisions when i do get there. My low times DID get me that call from Colgan Mr H, but I am waiting until July after I get married to hopefully get in as I hate to start now and need 10 days off for a honeymoon.

Yes! Horizon Air was just in town a few weeks ago doing interviews here at UND. UND grads can apply with 700TT/50ME. Most instructors/alumns that applied got hired. Some of them are in the next class in 2 weeks. Most people that got hired and I've talked to got the Dash 8-200, but some people also got the 8-400Q and the CRJ-700.

Bro if you didn't get in then you won't be getting in anytime soon. They are not hiring at mins anymore.

Yeah, that would be a definately a hard choice to do. Drop a good schedule, good pay, and QOL to start all over and take years to get back to the level of QOL and the pay.

At the end though, i could picture myself spending the rest of my life as a CRJ-700 captain for Horizon.

From what I understand they are hiring about 10 per month for the year. Got it from a pretty good source. I understand they are getting 12 Q400's this year so they gotta have somebody to fly them. That info is from a buddy of mine that is and FO in the Dash 8 so I am thinking its fairly good info.

Yeah, according to Airlinepilotpay.com --> Most junior captain hired: Oct 1999

Last year we had the chief pilot from Horizon in my Aviation Career class. He said they don’t upgrade, the aircraft you start with is the one you’ll finish with. You get one training class, helps to keep their operation cost down. Also a Dash 8 captain will make the same as a CRJ captain.

John, I know they are hiring above mins because of all the Indies walking around, Chuck Colgan said so, but he told me that in April etc they will be hiring off the street again!!
