If you are interested, I'll be posting new information about "living at Horizon" in the next few days. If you have questions, please ask. Myself or pete2800 can answer them, since we're the only two on here with first hand/day to day knowledge.
Horizon is voting on a new TA that would extend our current contract to 2018, here's the thread (http://forums.jetcareers.com/threads/horizon-ta.156133/).
Educate yourself, as to not get caught with your pants on the ground and lookin' like a foo!

Not looking but just out of curiosity, what is the junior base and how long does it usually take to get SEA or PDX?

Medford is the junior base, followed by Spokane and Boise. Seattle isn't as senior as Portland (most senior, I can't hold it with nearly 6 years seniority). With nearly 6 years, I'm able to hold a composite/sometimes line in Seattle.

6 years longevity. What is your % overall on the master list after 6 years?

I'd say pretty good, here's a quote from our CEO:
I know it seems like this carrot has been dangling in front of our eyes for a long while, but a lot of the necessary groundwork is nearly done. If all goes well with our RNP certification and Q400 reliability improvements, we could be flying there as soon as late 2013.

along with this:
We could start flying up there by squeezing more time out of our current route system. But to grow our service in Alaska to what -- in my opinion -- it really needs to be, which is six to eight planes, we'd likely have to buy more.

It seems the decisions have been made, and I would expect to see an ANC base for Horizon in the near future. Maybe in the 60-80 crews range.

With all other requirements being met, do you know if there is any flexibility in the "A minimum of 60 hours flown in the last 6 months" requirement?

Thanks.

If flying in AK is contingent on Q400 reliability improvements, we're in for a long wait. Haha. They've been trying to improve the reliability of this thing for a decade now...

I'm at the Medford base, willing to answer most questions...

Is there anything in particular that makes people want to work for Horizon? Equipment?... QOL?... Upgrade? I've heard a lot of people interested in working for this particular carrier and I don't know much about them.

There pay is (I think) the highest for a regional carrier. I haven't kept up on it since I left there. Enjoy the right seat for some more time than other regionals. Other than that there are a great group of people there. Not as great though when MK was still running the place but that was a loooongggg time ago.

What kind of paychecks monthly can a new hire expect.
Is commuting from Portland doable?
How long would I be on reserve?
Are FOs leaving from the bottom or staying?
If majors hire how many capts will move on?
What's a typical reserve schedule like?
Are they planning to hire just 1 class or continuous hiring?
Thanks!

I just rode on Horizon and the F/O was saying he's been there 10 years and still makes 35K. Wishes he had gone somewhere with a faster upgrade. That's always been the downside of QX. That it takes a long time to upgrade. I think it's a place with a lot of lifers due to people wanting to live in the northwest.

That's BS...if he's only making that much, he's doing it wrong. Even with commuting to a line/composite line in Seattle, I'll clear close to $50K on 4th year pay.

On first year pay, I'm at 25k net for the year to date.

Is commuting from Portland doable?
Yes.

How long would I be on reserve?
I'm holding a line for the first time this next bid. I was hired 12-1-11.

Are FOs leaving from the bottom or staying?
Few are leaving. Many are trying.

If majors hire how many capts will move on?
Very few, honestly. Maybe 25% of the captains are interested in leaving.

What's a typical reserve schedule like?
13 days off out of a 35 day bid. 90 minute call-out, although the reserve rules could change if our TA passes.

Are they planning to hire just 1 class or continuous hiring?
Theoretical continuous hiring, but I'd be skeptical. They seem to schedule one class at a time. In the last year, they've had three classes total.

You're welcome![/quote]
